I commented on this video about a year ago and I had to give an update because this video changed everything for me. I'm in my junior year right now and I've 15.4 on the 110 hurdles and 41.97 on the 300's this year. Both of these dropped my times from last year by major numbers. Thank you for this great video!

If your using blocks for hurdles, you need to put your trail leg on the front part of the block, (those of you who don’t know what trail leg and lead leg are, the lead leg is the one that goes straight forward while the trail leg comes after the lead leg) so if you trail with your right leg (if your right leg comes over the hurdle last) put that leg up front in blocks trust me 👍

@stevie5862 жыл бұрын
Great explanation of the drive, steps, etc. If I may add, the goal is to treat this like an actual sprint while just kicking the legs over the hurdle, then quickly getting back down, in an effort to increase frequency between each hurdle. So, very little drive while standing tall enough to get to the first hurdle, the arms should now flail, but should be in sprinting form, while the arm over the trail leg goes very high and hammers straight down as that lead leg drops in order to touchdown with more force, thus increasing speed. Also, we shouldn’t actually lean into the hurdle, but run upright as in sprinting. Simply run the hurdles like a normal sprint (except the drive) but lift the lead and trail legs like a step over (not a jump) just to clear the hurdle!
@kavindarajapaksha51057 жыл бұрын

Aubrey Hurlbert practice snapping your leg down sooner too, that helped me. Start on your height and just jump close to it and try to snap it as soon as possible. Be ready to hit your leg on the hurdles. It may hurt.

You need to work on forum next because the reason you hit the hurdles wrong was because of the posture. Straighten your dominant and bend your other behind you. This works well with air dynamics as well. I've been doing hurdles for 9 years (started at age 5) and I've never fallen or knocked one down. If you bond too much then try to take little steps between the hurdles so you can try and hit the dominant foot. Idk its just what my trainer thought me. Hope it works for you

as a retired high school and college coach as well as a masters track hurdler my first comment on the first day of practice to all hurdlers was......... always run at sprint speed. there is no reason or value to running or practicing hurdles short of sprinting. perfect practice makes perfect. warm up and event dpecific drills are mandatory.

Your arms should move exactly how they do when sprinting..except for the "exaggerated reach" while clearing the hurdle. Do NOT kick the lead leg up, just raise the lead knee higher than in a Sprint. Remember to bring the trail leg knee high as you finish the clearance. My resume:. 14.2 in the 110/120 on cinders...back in '60.

Jaret, a couple of things that would help a lot...1) You sway back and forth from side to side when you talk, it's distracting. 2) Insert some bullet points on the screen for your videos. That will help people visualize and summarize your points after you've stated them. 3) Try to minimize all the talking about it, and maybe have another person you can coach and they can demonstrate as well. 4) Getting distracted by oddities during your videos is pretty distracting to the viewer too. 5) You can film it more than once, that will increase work on editing, but it'll help make a much more refined video. Anyway, your videos are great. I wish I'd seen them 20 years ago. Thanks.
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын

+Jaret Campisi Yes there's specifics I want to say, I do the 100 hurdles too, both me and my brother everytime when we go over the hurdle our form is pretty bad and stiff, and going pass the hurdle it does feel like we are going how to the other hurdlers are going elegantly over, sometimes it's like we are jumping more than hurdling it, hopefully you can help fix this.
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын
+Diioorraa 8 yeah that's a very common issue for newer hurdlers. Its really just about continuing to do the right drills, correctly and over time it will carry into your full speed hurdling. I've also got another video on hurdling that I will link here, that will def help you guys. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGO4l52Vareaqs0

how about 100m hurdles aau track , for a 5'1 male ( ' 33 ) hurdles
@Joe-yc3kn5 жыл бұрын
jay since your only 5’1 you probably can’t 3 step just try and stay as low over the hurdles as possible without hitting it. Keep sprinting, come out fast of your blocks. Don’t be afraid to hit them.

You should try, and keep practicing since you’re real tall for your age, I didn’t learn how to 3 step till I was 6 feet but I’ve seen kids 5’7 Doing it. What event do you run a 39 in?

Coach Campisi can you help me by making a video on how to do the 3 step after jumping over the first hurdle please.
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын
+Servando Aviles I can go more into depth on this for sure...but its really just taking three steps between the hurdle. haha
@servandoaviles78478 жыл бұрын
+Jaret Campisi ok then what I do because I'm somewhat new to hurdles and my coach just tells me to do 9 steps to the beginning hurdle and 5 steps in between
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын
+Servando Aviles yeah that's fine for starting out. A good way to learn how to three step is to just go over the first two hurdles and lower them to the intermediate or even female height to see if you can actually run fast enough to be able to three step and then go from there. I can make a video on this in the future.
@servandoaviles78478 жыл бұрын
+Jaret Campisi ok thank you Coach Campisi
@clashwithmax67798 жыл бұрын
+Servando Aviles I remember 5 stepping as a freshman, it really didn't work well because I was taking such quick steps it caused me to run slow. I 4 stepped my sophomore year which worked a little better but not much. One thing you can do to work on 3 stepping is keeping the first hurdle at full hight and lowering second and third hurdles while moving them closer. I usually did 1 or 2 steps closer. When you get comfortable with the shortened distance you can work back towards full distance and height. For me the reason why I can 3 step now is because I developed my speed and strength a lot during the off season and in the weight room. Hope this helps.

14.2 seconds his senior year in high school is absurdly fast. It's nationals qualifying time so there's no way that can be what he ran if he said he wasn't that good of a hurdler
@JaretCampisi7 жыл бұрын
Cam I Am I ran 14.3 seconds in the 110 hurdles in high school. I won States and I had my school record. I said I wasn't that great because I compare myself to Olympic times where they are running 12 seconds. 👍
@camiam1197 жыл бұрын
You are a great hurdler! Why didn't you keep going with it? There are a few techniques you could have perfected to get that time down even further
@JaretCampisi7 жыл бұрын
Cam I Am haha thanks. The hurdle height in college had a big affect on me as I'm fairly short for a hurdler at 5'10. I did however have some success in the 400 hurdles where I was an NCAA All American and went to the Olympic trials. 👍

NICE! I'm hoping to make New England's (regionals) this year in the 110H as I've failed to make All-States for the 55 meter hurdles this past indoor season. I messed up on the second to last hurdle, slowing me down greatly. I still finished in 5th, but I was devoted from the beginning of the season to make All-States, so now I want to make New England's this spring season.

@mintchipster8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Jimenenz My coach said if you run a 12 second 100m, you can run a 15 seconds in the 110m high hurdles. However, that's with proper technique and practice of course.

+mintchipster okay well my form is okay it's not the best but its good enough.
@JaretCampisi8 жыл бұрын
For world class athletes you add around 4 sec and then it tapers down from there. I'd say 5-6 sec to your 100 time would be about right so you could def drop some time by working on your hurdle technique.
