I did this in Germany when I did my European delivery. I couldn’t wait to open it up on the autobahn after lol. They even scheduled the 1200 mile service for me in stuttgart free of charge and gave me a couple free bottles of 10w-60. BMW has always treated me like a king!

After the 1200mile service you should increase your “max” rpm by 100rpm per 100 miles past 1200 until you can hit maximum engine speed. Also have an additional oil service between the dealers 1200 and 10,000 mile service as metal will still be in the filter.

I remember 4 magic transfer cases coming in with noise complaints. Simple drain n refill after a hot road test, running the car in tight left n right circles. Do the process up to three times. Kinda helped IMHO.

Pretty annoying really having to have a break-in period. The 1000cc beemer motorbikes actually have a limiter which needs removed at 600 miles. I personally don't cover 1200 very quickly so it would take me probably a year if boring driving to be able to enjoy the car. You should be able to order the car broke-in from the factory dyno

So, under 5000rpm until 600, under 6000rpm until 1200 miles. Same info that's been around forever, just in spoken word rather than written. I would have thought there would be some additional information, seeing how they took the time to make a video and all. If this is even remotely important, the car should have a limiter until that mileage is reached. Or, at the very least, a digital report that tells the subsequent owners how badly/often the first guy thrashed it. Knowing someone else will have the car in the long run, how many 1st owners actually do this? Brand new M car, and no "spirited" driving? 1200 miles can take months to rack up. It's like only going to 2nd base with your new girlfriend!

I would be more conservative, do not exceed 3k rpm for 2000 km, use alterating speeds, never kick down, do not exceed 140 kmh. And change oil after 1000km and then after next 1000 km.

I bought a 2023 X3 M40i recently and asked the same question. Dealership told me there is no break-in, only on the full M cars.

Of course but BMW won't tell you because in their view the M customers are a different - more passionate and more solvent - group of customers which are accepting that additional treatment as opposed to the rest. If that hypothesis is untrue, then I would think that M powertrains are less durable than the rest.^^

@@TrueFilter No M models currently come equipped with a B58 engine, or any non-"S" engine variant. If you're not rocking an S58 or S63 engine under the hood of your BMW, it's not an M car.

If you want to call it an M car you should have bought an M3. Any kind of 40i 50i denotes an "M Performance" automobile, which is not the as "M" automobile aka M car. Thats what BMW says officially. Ture M cars are always single digits, M3/4 M5 XM3, XM6 ect. So do not call your car an M car, you'll be called out by someone who actually owns an M car. You are allowed to refer to it as "M light" but thats about it. M in your badge means jack shit, a regular 3 series can come with an M package and have M badges plastered all over it, it doesn't make an 330i an M car or even an M performance car like yours. Unless you got a single digit behind the M its not an M car.
