I must say, I am a bodybuilder at heart and mostly follow BB and nutrition content, however, your guys' channel is great. So different and interesting to see the lifestyle and training of serious runners. Although this is not my particular preferred fitness medium, I can respect and appreciate what goes into the work and sacrifices that are needed to excel in the concept of speed.

Over the years I've found there's an individual "sweet spot" with mileage and trying to balance health, speed, and race performance (as well as work/school, and/or social life). It's generally something we sometimes have to learn the hard way (with injury or poor race performance), but a gradual progression over time is generally good. So smart to track the weekly averages and yearly totals. For example I ran some 140-mile weeks right out of college and that ended up being too much...but when I ran my marathon PR of 2:16 I was more at like 120-miles per week. For others it might be the difference between running 65 miles per week (compared to 80). It's always a tough balance when you've got some high quality speed workouts and you want to stay fresh and efficient! Keep it up and stay healthy!

Hi Adam, I love your videos. Recently I’ve been hearing about 80/20 running a lot where you run 80% of your runs at an easy pace, and the rest harder. Do you do this with your training, or what’s your thoughts on this method. Thank you so much! Keep up the good work 👊🙏
@AdamWoodRuns5 ай бұрын
I like the 80/20 rule and that’s usually how my weeks end up being distributed BUT I think that rule shouldn’t always be applied. Depending on your situation, if youre a new runner or how many miles youre running the ratio might be different. I think the principle of 80/20 is more important. Which is lots more easy running compared to hard running :)

I’m a 400 runner who went up to the 800 this track season. I was pretty good considering I’m a freshman sprinter. My mileage was really low because I was mostly training for the 400, but now I want to do XC because I think once I get the aerobic component of the 800 I can run low 1:50s. I’ve been running about 18 miles per week, plus lifting 5 days a week, and sprinting 2 days. Do you think it would be more beneficial to run instead of lifting most days, and then lift like 2-3 times per week?
