Great 1/2 of the tutorial 🙂 I was waiting for the part where you install Plex on the PC and connect to the server....hummmm

You are the second person recently that mentioned that. I will add it to list. Thanks for the feedback

Great information SIr. QQ: What is the advantage (if any) of running Plex on my QNAP over create a VM (VMWare) and allocating the resource to the VM (CPU/Memory)? I set up NFS on the QNAP and access it from the VM, I have to issues. Just wondering, because on the VM I can keep adding resources to it.
@MikeFaucher3 жыл бұрын
No real advantage other than simplicity. If you are comfortable with VMs then that is better and allows you to run it on any hardware. Running Plex on a VM on a QNAP could be slower. Many NAS users might find it easier to run as an app on the NAS units versus setting up a VM. Nice to have a choice. Great question.
@rfrancoi3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeFaucher Greater answer; thank you Sir. I think I'll stick with my set up. Btw, the VM is Linux (Fedora), so very low overhead by the OS.

When I try to launch the Plex app on my NAS (TS932-PX) doesn't connect to the Plex website (I have independently setup my Plex account) it instead of trying to get to the Plex site it loops back to itself. Any suggestions?
@MikeFaucher2 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly based on your description however I would check the following. Assuming you setup your libraries, plex should launch and load your library not the web site. The web site is only connected once you log in as the user but Plex should launch on its own. I would make sure you have configure your port correctly. To get things going I would leave the default port and disable the remote access during your troubleshooting.

Hi Mike, thanks for the video. You talked about installing Plex on an SSD, can it be moved to one after the fact?
@MikeFaucher3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Have never tried so I am not sure. Some apps will allow and some won't so I can't give you a direct answer. I will give it a try.

@@MikeFaucher Thanks for getting back to me. If you do try it, kindly let us know how to proceed. I am considering getting SSD drives for my Synology and would love to move Plex there. Thanks again and have a good holiday.

@@kevinbrown4119 I will definitely try it but as you have a Synology, I would suggest posting the same question in their sub reddit or their tech support as it may be different. Goof luck.

@@MrScrubtech1962 Yes, I verified it can be done. Got to the app center and click on the arrow and select "Migrate To" and select your SSD.

My QNAP has no issues with PLEX until I try using subtitles and then the film just quits constantly. Something to do with the temporary Transcode folder, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Do you have a plex pass? Which QNAP are. you using?

Hi Mike new subscriber here just a quick question I pretty new to Qnap NAS and primary use for backup and storage and plex, with the recent security breaches with qnap I keep getting notification not to use admin as an account and make a new admin account. After finding out how to disable the admin account i made a new admin account with the same priviledges and access to shared folders just like old admin account. However once I do this I cannot see the NAS network on my main PC. Plex still works via a browser but I cant get access to NAS the network drive icon vanishes. Just wondered is there something I missed maybe a setting in plex itself as it was originally setup using admin account I hope I dont have to re- setup PLEX on new admin account.
@MikeFaucher3 жыл бұрын
I believe it is because when you logged in with your pc you typed in the the original "admin" user and credentials, that user is now disabled to the PC. Go to the windows credential manager in the control panel of your pc, and look the IP or NAS name and delete it. Then go back to the file explorer and go the IP or NAS name and type in the new credentials and every thing should be there. One suggestion is that you create a separate user for all your access and not use the admin (new or old) to keep things secure and avoid access issues when changing your admin password. If your search for QNAP on my channel there are several things to review including accounts and security settings. Good luck and thanks for the question.

Are you trying to access this app withing your network? When you launch the app from the QNAP it should pop open the local IP and not try to communicate outside. Can you confirm this was installed via the app store?

Have you tried logging in through your account plex.tv? Once you are in their go to your SERVER, NETWORK, and set the secure connections back to preferred if they are not already, and make sure the port is the default is what you wanted to be. If you have changed the port, make sure you are using it xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx when communicating with your NAS. Are you able to reach everything else on your NAS?
