i appreciate your videos and making things simple for us "noobs"! - I moved from the trades in IT with 0 experience and watched your videos for years now, i am currently on a Service Desk Analyst role and slowly teaching myself this industry. Videos like this that explain in more detail how these things work, in this case setting up NAS ect goes a long way for me Thanks for all that you do

Thank you! I setup two different drives, one wasn't showing on my PC. Shared folder steps were the key! Thanks.

5:45 I thought you were going to show us how to map a drive from a virtual machine. A VM is hidden from the network, right? I can map my Qnap drive to my windows PC that's on the same network. But how do we map a Qnap drive or folder to a VM inside a Windows PC?

Hi There Love your set up video. I wish I had seen this before. Now I need to reset my QNAP TS-464 to factory settings and format drives. Can you help me please? Regards Rodger

This is a great video. My only question is regarding the volume creation. The very first volume that is created by QNAP contains system files as well as system folders for multimedia, music, etc. Why not create this as "sysvol" and then create an additional volume for data (i.e. Datavol1") so that as you add an expansion unit of additional raid sets, you can add additional volume (e.g. Datavol2, Datavol3, etc.) . There are a couple of reasons to do this. First, you aren't mixing data with system files and keeping the volumes potentially smaller. So when QNAP forces you to run a volume check for bad content due to a system crash, breaking the volumes out like this takes less time to run the check disk type processes. Should also be a bit better virus protection since the system and data files aren't being mixed on the same volume. Just curious?

Do you have a setup video for JBOD and mapping the drives? TIA
@kerrin66339 ай бұрын
Hi, this video is on mapped drives or are you formatting the HDDs for RAID configuration for the first time. Is it the same process? I am confused because there is a setting in Windows for 'Map Network Drive', and I an using a DAS TR-004. Since it's direct storage I won't need to map the drive. However if you can help confirm that setting up the DAS is the same that would be great. I guess I would consider this video covering the following: configuring NAS for the first time, and formatting your HDDs and then mapping the drive to your main computer

Hi, If I have 5 hdd Wd red pro 4tb each, 1 ssd wd red 500 and 2 Nmve sn700 plus 64 gb of ram using Qts and Qtier for streaming media for maximum results I did install 2 Nvmes wd sn700 1tb each for a total of 2tbs, 1 for read and 1 for write, do you think this 2 Nmves are enough for cache or I need 4tbs for 4k streaming? Also an Nvidia gpu for transcoding. Thanks again

On Buffalo NAS it has a direct URL for its NAS torrent app. What's the direct URL for the Download Station app without having to go into QNAP App Center first to open it ?

I'm stuck at 15:42 whenever I type that "\\" and the path to my static IP address into the run command or file explorer it keeps telling me that it cannot connect to the network drive. I'm running QFinder Pro at 7.4.5 with a UDM PRO Router + UDM PRO 24 PoE++ Switch

My guess is you need to edit the local group policy and enable insecure guest logins. Have had this issue before. Especially if you’re running in a domain environment.

Great video My old TS-251 (2015) gave up last week. And I plan to get TS-251D or TS-253 but I wonder, can I put the old HDD Raid 1 con. into the new NAS without losing the information.

This video was very helpful, though I would like to ask that you filter the voiceover section of the walkthrough a bit better. The microphone peaks quite a bit. Turning the gain down and compensating by getting a bit closer could help make it more clear. Thank you though!

Brilliant1 I think I've just worked out why my QNAP NAS drive mapping keeps failing :-( What the discovery does mean though is I now have another question - can I change from DHCP IP addressing to Static without losing data. I have a 4 drive QNAP with 4 x 6Tb drives configured in mirrored pairs with around 7Tb of data. Thanks in anticipation of a response - but fully understand if you do not have time to do so.

Looking at a NAS with raid 1 mirror for backups. Im not sure how much I would need but at the same time I want to pretty much not have to upgrade for years so I'm tempted to wait until I can overspec so I know it will handle it.
