I have the trimmer below this model and once it comes across thick/strong grass it can’t handle it. Eats up a length of line within 15 seconds and goes right back into the spool. Then you have to manually adjust it constantly 🙄

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I can't understand what the function of the 4 slots on the upper spool is. I can replace the line without using them at all. But I'm Australian, mostly descended from convicts etc etc so not so bright and I have a bad attitude. So if anyone could enlighten me, I would certainly appreciate it :-) Also, in my RLT36 Operator's Manual, it states: "Insert the cutting line into the anchor hole in the upper part of the spool. Wind the cutting line around the upper part of the spool clockwise, as shown by the arrows on the spool." I did not see this in this or any other video. This is somewhat enigmatic because the anchor hole doesn't really anchor the line (or so it seems) AND the line needs to be wound (according to the 'rewind line' with arrows indicating direction on the spool) in a counter-intuitive direction. And I'm writing this because I'm procrastinating from actually doing some trimming work.

Mine has been nothing but trouble since the first spool it came with ran out and I put in a replacement spool. According to these instructions I did everything correctly when installing the replacement but it still doesn’t work right.

Glad I found this reply, mine line breaks at least once a minute. Bunnings have replaced the entire line trimmer under warrantee and I’m about to return the second for a refund as a faulty good. It simply doesn’t work. The original line supplied worked fine, it’s the official Ryobi replacements that are the issue.

5 spools cost $32.00 I used a spool in 12 minutes , thats $32.00 an hour ............ it should come with FREE LIFE TIME SPOOLS as much as you can use . I'm sending it back .

Mine keeps melting the line. The sleeve gets so hot it melts the line. Tried using silicone spray & Teflon sprays. Is there anything else I can do? Mine is the 40001A. There are no upgraded replacement string heads either. It bites.

I’m going to try a smaller diameter line .075 or smaller. Mine keeps getting stuck after a little use.

The blue replacement line seems to be stuck together!!!! I thought it melted but after so many times of fixing this , it is how I got the string. Not happy!! Gonna try the yellow string. I have the edger/trimmer older model I guess. If I have to replace this it will not be a Ryobi

Good video no problems with loading the spool but when operating, the line will extend itself. How do you prevent that?

I just called them with the same issue. Check under the spool there's a spring there that might have gotten stuck in place which keep feeding line.

What's the secret to holding the string on the spool while you're trying to wind the new string on it?

You may have figured it out by now, but for other folk out there.. if you look carefully at the spool, you'll notice a notch or a depression laterally. This where you can insert the tip of the cord to keep it in place then you just spool it around! Hope it helps!

I just bought the 40v Ryobi and it lasted less than 30 minutes on a full charge! The string also stopped feeding and I am ready to give this back to Home Depot💩👎

Do this with Ryobi cassettes and still get the same issue of it won't feed the line out. So disappointed with it.

Mine only lasts 10 or so minutes , I'm sending it back and I'm getting a REAL gas trimmer , these little spools are a joke . I really wanted to like it , because I have many Ryobi one plus tools and batteries , but this trimmer has a weak point the trimmer line runs out too fast , WAAAAAAAY TOOOOOOOO FASSSSSST !~
