It takes a real businessman to know when and how to delegate, even if your pride as a welder might make you want to burn every joint on your own. Doing all that cutting and fitting to ensure that everything’s correct and up to standard, and then letting someone else do the easy work, is a testament to your humility and knowledge!

I have no idea how I got here but this vid was strangely relaxing and informative. This gent is the Bob Ross of pipe fitting 😊

Thanks for the refresher course. I've been out of the pipe fitting game for 20 years and find myself having to fit some 5" pipe together and found this video very helpful. Thank you !

I start a new job in a week, they require one of those angle finders and a bevel gauge . My idea of the angle finder was way way off and I didn' t know what a bevel gauge was, I have never had to use them. I definitely learned something over coffee today, thank' A R. 👌

When building gates or working on say 3,4,or 5 rail fence; I ask all guys on my crew to use this terminology and mark the pipe accordingly with soap stone, TT-is top top aka high side of pipe top side, TB is top bottom, aka top side of pipe on lower side if running down hill, BT-is bottom top aka bottom side of pipe in correlation to the tt side , last but not least BB or bottom bottom; follows suit with aforementioned… it helps guys to start visualizing their cuts and copes and to quickly realize that if their line posts or gate ends r square or titsmcghee level, then the opposing cuts will be exactly the same…most importantly it helps stop guys from wasting pipe by not paying attention and putting their short side cuts on same side of pipe I really like the custom templates; especially for gates… great stuff brother keep it coming.

Nice work! It's in times like these that you sometimes miss having a good fitter with you that can develop templates fast. But it's also by doing that you get better and increase speed and productivity so I give you a great thumbs up for taking your time to do your templates and work to a good standard of quality.

Recently found your channel. I was going to ask why you stick weld most all your projects instead of MIG. Also, those cutting torch skills are second to none!! Thanks for the videos, good sir!
@malabuu_1557
@malabuu_1557 Жыл бұрын
When you’re outside MIG doesn’t work very well because the environment will mess up the shielding gas and cause malfunctions in your weld. MIG is mainly used indoors.

Austin, why don’t you keep these cut templates and then transfer them to metal and market them with your plans for the gates

Because they are easy enough to make them oneself

@@LifetimeinWelding fair. If it was me wanting to fabricate a gate from his site for one of my first pipe projects I would want it to be as idiot proof as possible. He makes it look easy but he has an insane amount of experience.

Get the practical skills first and that is:- look up “finding the joint lines of interpenetrating geometric solids “ & “parallel line development” Other wise your whistling in the wind.

Austin, not trying to be a smart-arse, but the CAD program I'm using, (Turbo-Cad 2020) shows that if your vertical upright for the gate, is 5' Ft. next to the 16' Ft. - 6 1/4" in. 8" in. Dia. pipe, Gate Entrance upright. your overall gate width is 11' Ft.- 9.759" in. Allowing for one inch weld-on hinges. Front part (the vertical is 3.5" in. dia., X 3' Ft. - 8" in. tall / height) I'm getting /showing a 70.099° angle. That's measuring three inches down on the 5' Ft. vertical, and at the front / leading edge of the 3' Ft. - 8" in. vertical pipe measuring up from the bottom the gate front upright 5.637" in. approx.

Does the cad program transfer well to the reality ? Can cad do cope templates for different wall sizes ? Wall thickness makes a big difference to cope fit .

Great video!! Question? Not being critical here but I here you say learning curve or maybe learning more when you end having to take the long way around on a project. Do you figure out the best or fastest way and then your charging the customer or is the customer being charged while your figuring it out? Just wanting your opinion/advice so I can be fair with my customers, thanks

I try to watch your videos when I can. I am a refrigeration technician apprentice... 2nd year.... my question is, are you R certified? I am a hobby and non certified welder. I was wondering the process of getting R certified and the prospects just that field... in your opinion. Thanks! I am 50 years old and decided to change change fields... from 20 plus years of manufacturing of food and pharmaceuticals to maintenance.

How do you get your 7018 to restart that easy? I'm new to stick and I end up touching them up on the grinder or I can't seem to strike an arc with the Flux balling up over the tip. I've been using 6011 to root pass and cap with the 7018 on my h-braces

Full size Set out of the gate or any frame out using chalk lines on a setting out floor. I.E. using multiple sheets of 3/4” steel sheets 8x4 stitch welded or larger on level concrete. Then make the template from the set out angle using “parallel line” development method. Accurately Cut and shape the parts no guesswork and cutting and grinding a second time. Convert the chalk line set out to an assembling jig. By welding on angle iron as side stops Question is. Why use pipe. Box section would be easier or T section or channel section or L section. Surface protection. Where I live they’ed need to be galvanised.

Good job bro
