I also use a similar method when buying new plants. I like to quarantine them for 48 hours and spray them down before introducing them to the rest of the houseplants.

Hi Crazy plant, Hope you’re fine, I need some advice as winter is approaching, how to deal with my plants at that time of year as I will be butting heating during that period. All of my plants are in the living room and I also wanted an opinion for the types of plant lights. Thank you so much and I would appreciate if you would respond to me

I have just started to treat my new plants before introducing them into my home after bringing in fungus gnats recently. I've used a hydrogen peroxide flush twice, but can't find any more due to covid, so I tried Safers Insecticide Soap last week. Harli G. recommended mosquito bits mixed with your potting mix. We can't get them in Canada so I'm following a suggestion to crush mosquito dunks and add them to the top 2" of soil. Wish me luck!

I learned the hard way about the soil and the holes in the bottom of the pots. I had to bring my plants in a few weeks ago because our nights are already dropping below 50°f and I did the whole soap routine, but I didn’t know to repot them 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t know what kind of bugs they were, but there was a hive of them in my garage (where I quarantine usually for a week) the next day. Yepp! Every single plant got repotted, and the bugs were in 3 out of 13 plants! Ugggg! I’m sure the soap would of eventually killed them off, but could you imagine the fiasco if I hadn’t of quarantined in my garage? 😱 Thank you for being so informative, I truly learn so much from you!!

Thanks, I'm in Toronto also, well I started with plants into fruit trees from seeds 8 years ago, now they are flowering, my secant year of blooming, a Mamey tree 7' and a sour sup tree 10', also got a giant June Plum tree 15', had to set up a green house now they are so large, the Mamey is blooming again right now. Great Idea of spraying them down, great process you're doing before bringing them indoors.

Do you save your old soil and re"infuse" them with compost or worm casting to use again? Or do you just throw it away?
@carolynallen597
@carolynallen597 4 жыл бұрын
You would throw the old soil away in this case bc the point of repotting here is to get rid of possibly infested soil. You could sterilize the soil by baking it or nuking it but then you kill both good and bad in the soil and it takes a couple of months to repopulate that soil with good bacteria/fungus. Hardly seems worth it to me.
