Stay mobile. That’s the message I take from this channel. If you are thinking you can go anywhere in the world and live forever that’s not reality. Andrew is right that places like the USA are heading in the wrong direction. At the same time many countries are changing direction as often as I change my socks. Argentina just went from socialist to libertarian overnight. Stay mobile.

However, then you become a slave to the rental markets and "gringo gouging." We do want to have a place to live in places we want to return to. When everyone in your new host country sees foreigners as an ATM on legs, and charge you 2x or 3x the rates, you start to lose the geo-arbitrage advantage you came for. We did buy in Argentina. Hoping that it turns out to be a good long term choice. Regardless, we know where we like to live, but don't want to pay $2000 a month for a little apartment because the locals want to stick it to foreigners.

I made the decision to leave Canada permanently about a year ago, as I saw no future for myself there, and I'm currently living in Costa Rica. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's definitely much better. Nice weather, great food, friendly people, no mass immigration, no "wokeness", and honestly just a better quality of life overall. I'm looking forward to exploring other countries, but I don't plan on ever going back to Canada. I'm in my early 20s and I don't want to be a debt slave and work in a depressing country for the rest of my life. So for those who are considering leaving and can afford it, do it. Life is just too short.

However I have heard that banks in the US are not receptive to someone not living in the US and demand closure of accounts. Is it true and do you know of a way to keep an address in the US that will keep the financial institutions happy like UPS mailboxes etc.

It can be magnificent. Depends on what you like. With the old dolar blue, you'd double your purchasing power if you brought USD. Meaning restaurants are 1/5 the price of the US. Food shopping can be as little as 1/10th of the US. Housing can be 1/10 compared to expensive markets. Nobody knows whether Milei will ruin it or help. My retirement is now tied in part to Argentina, so I hope for the best.

I'll give my 2 cents, but Mexico was the only country to stay open to anyone coming or leaving during the entire pandemic and did not mandate vaccines or masks. However, private businesses could mandate masks and individual citizens could wear them anywhere they wished. Overall many street vendors never recovered from a loss of income over one month of not being able to work to help keep people off the streets. But the city is over 100% back to normal now, and they vowed to never shut down street vendors again.

Great advise. I wasn't planning to move out of the US for a few years, but I knew that Mexico was going to be where I relocated. I would visit at least 3-4 times a year, come home and then book another trip. I was able to build a community there and this was the next logical step. 2023 hit, my position at my job was removed and I found myself thinking I can either wait for the 'right moment' or move. So I did. Months later, I don't regret it one bit, I just wish I moved sooner.

Choosing to depart before one's freedom is compromised is wise. Yet, it's perplexing how people from regions like the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Central Africa long for their homelands upon migrating to Western nations, even though their countries didn't offer the freedom and economic opportunities they sought.
