Under the current chapter of US history, it is the right-wing that would make it harder on US expats, including making it harder to obtain multiple citizenships. Their manner of thinking would be why should Americans have multiple citizenships if America is the best country in the world.

I sacrificed so much to move to America as a teenager. I left behind my entire family. The people who birthed me, fed me, loved me! 25 years later - as a father, husband, and business owner - I find myself wanting to leave. I feel like I am living inside a corporation, not a nation. A corporation where every individual experience has been boiled down to a transaction. This country is dumbing down its own citizens and draining them off of their resources, and using their blood, sweat, tears and their dignity, to destroy other citizens and nations around the world. I have third cousins in Northern Ireland as well as in Norway...will visit them one day. That said, if I were to leave the USA for an extended period, I might go to Portugal or Spain for a bit, but would also go to live Switzerland due to the quality of their healthcare which is likely as good, or maybe better than where I live now in Northern Virginia. The really weird part is I live in Thailand as an Aussie but when I open a bank account I have to sign a declaration stating that I am not an American nor ever been one. The global draconian reach of the US on its citizens and its ability to make smaller states governements and banking systems bow to US demands blew me away to the extent I found it offensive even though it doesn’t affect me other than a pointless form. The reason it’ll be hard for countries like Oz to do it is they lack the power to bully other nations like the US does with its gross abuse of power. But they would if they could.

“… I get to choose my home.” When I tell my dad why I don’t vote and he says never talk to me about the problems of this country, I always tell him how invalid that logic is. _You_ vote, so you align yourself with a party and you vote for that party. If anyone does not get to argue, it’s YOU! I can talk trash freely about any of these politicians because I’m unaligned. I’ve never understood when people say that. I’m not neurodivergent, I’m just basic-level logic 101 and willing to change if I hear better logic. Either way, I’m working towards my exodus but I’m uninterested in expatriating. However, I am learning about legal loopholes on how to structure my reporting entities so that I can pay little to no taxes. Basically structuring my LLCs I use to wholesale and putting them under a foundation.

As an INFJ, I have always been repulsed by the "in-your-face" bullying of the U.S. ...mostly women. Loud and obnoxious and often vicious, women convinced me that the States are the place that advocates bullying. I've lived around the world and in 7 states since young. I've loved many global and kind cultures and still enjoy living abroad. The only reason I have retained my citizenship and still live in the States is because my siblings and their families are there. Otherwise, I would have left years ago for good. It's not a safe and fun place to live. As a culture, people are inherently angry, ignorant, and indignant compared to so many other countries.

@yevgeniygrechka6431Күн бұрын
This is a good explanation, and at least in your personal case I agree that renouncing US citizenship was the correct thing to do. The only thing that I would somewhat push back on is that a US passport is very helpful for children who are growing up. The US still has excellent companies and universities, and being able to have that experience can be a large advantage for children/young adults. Then the kids can make their own decisions as well whether to renounce their US passports. So I would say to hold off on renunciation until you at least finished having children.

I can't disagree with you and find all of your posts enlightening. I think America is declining, though you can still have the best of everything if you're willing to pay for it. I am sorely disappointed in the almost unbelievable ignorance and lack of worldly knowledge of most Americans and the absurdity of American politics today. However, I also think there is a role for government in investments for the collective public good with our tax money if only people were smart enough to hold their elected representatives accountable. I think America's education system has failed us. But I'm not ready to leave my home in a large American city now at 75 years old where I'm comfortable, enjoy family and friends, have some of the best goods, services, and entertainment available anywhere, have excellent healthcare with a Medicare Supplement Plan and social security, and am financially secure given my investments. I would consider moving to Europe or Southeast Asia if I were younger. Instead, I spend part of the summers vacationing abroad enjoying the many amenities that other countries offer. Then I'm happy to come home where I have all the creature comforts and nearly everything I need is practically at my doorstep. Again, thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom.
