For all those who complain about “jiber jaber”, I am here to remind you that youtube gives you the option to speed up the video from 1.2 up to 2.0 I listened to this at 1.5x and got through all the video because I needed the very useful free information. I tried polishing glass just today with the same ceriglass and the same pad but with a DA at speed 4 and it was hard. Did not know an interface pad would help, did not know you need full speed, did not know you need to go 20-30min just for a small area and many more. So let me just give a huge thank you for the quality informations given. Haven’t got any info that specific in any orher videos like the one given here. So stop wining, you little babies.

Best professional instruction I've seen. I am DIY with bad water spots on windshield, and deciding between my own ability to polish out and spending for the tool vs. replacement of windshield. Having serious night time glare and is a safety issue. This is not to mention that I'm a senior, with less than average endurance. Mike says, "yeah it's hard" and it looks it.

You're not trying to polish out scratches though. I would pick up some glass polish and try it by hand before investing in a tool. You could go with the cerium oxide products he mentioned, but honestly you may see good results just picking up some regular glass polish from Amazon and doing it by hand.

Back in '68, I acquired a '65 AC Cobra with a windshield that would have made a good test case for your process. The Cobra had been wrecked and had a hard life. The passenger side was severely wiper-blade scratched, with scratches filled with over spray, and barely translucent . I was young, not very knowledgeable, and sought help. All recommendations were that it was a lost cause. Using a standard power drill, and many hours intermittently, I started with bathroom cleanser and worked my way up to jeweler's rouge. It was a learning experience and I was fearful of damaging the windshield and possibly cause other irreversible damage. I could always tell but otherwise it was mostly not noticeable.

Okay. That's what I did wrong. Well I guess I better buy some stuff. You showed me how to do it. Its the least I can do. I will Pick up the pads this week and get this job done. Been dealing with scratches for a while. Time to get rid of them. I see this taking about a day to do for me. My whole window is scratched. It helps building a 3"+ fence with blue tape around the perimeter being buffed. That would catch 90% of the material being flung.

53:24 Tip: Take a towel, fold it so it's thick to hold more water, soak it with cold water, and place on the outside windshield over the spot you buffed inside to soak up the heat.

Heat is a real problem and why misting with water is really important. I attended a class of Mike's and toward the end the interface pad was smoking. It fell apart after all students were done with the process, watch the heat!

Great video. I started my windshield yesterday with my Mirka Deros and abranet, quite a deep wiper gouge. I've spent about two hours working on the levelling, could be another hour left to do before I even go to 1500. I have Trizact 3000, and then onto the rayon disc and cerium oxide. It would've been easier/cheaper(timewise on earning) to jist put a new glass in, but I jist did that a few months ago after stine damage, so it's partly a matter of conservation of material, partly just to know I can do it. Anyway this video pointed out a few things I might have otherwise overlooked, and is exceptionally thorough.

Yeh it is hard work! I polished out wiper arm grooves in a vintage windscreen. I didn't have any product. I made a leather pad for a cordless drill and used brick dust as the abrasive and water as the lube. It took hours.

A buddy to mist? Ever heard of those little misters people connect to their hose during the summer? It stands by itself...also has a lever to open and close the water flow.. no unnecessary buddy necessary.. Also, a little step ladder to get you up above the windshield... could save your shoulders... just an idea.

I work in glass fabrication and use the purex buffing system. It's pricey but great. Ibwas under the impression that windshields had a coating on them and couldn't be buffed. Might do this for a side hustle

I used to have a problem with glass being sandblasted in Florida. Lots of sand living 2 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I have a secret to cure this though. No, I won't tell you because it cost me $80,000 for one vehicle...... Oh, OK. If you insist. Are you ready? Here it is. I bought a new house and moved 1,000 miles north to a hard rock state. 20 years and 5 vehicles later, I haven't had a problem since. It's been kind of a tradeoff though with the collisions between rock salt and sheet metal but you can't Bondo a windshield. Great show!

please understand what the steel wool is and is not capable of. I have done it personally several times and I can tell you from my experience that steel wool will absolutely NOT "remove" scratches on your windows. However, it is great for getting rid of almost any water spots and road grime that you can see if you were to just clean your windows with just a cleaning agent. For that issue, it has worked very well for me and it can make a huge impact on the viability.

Greetings from Hereford, England. Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial. This is exactly the problem (windscreen wiper scratches) I've been trying to fix for months. Now I know how. Cerium Oxide is on the way 😉👍🏻. One thing I would say, though, is that if you have a low pair steps, you could lean further forward and use your bodyweight to polish the glass. Far less physical and easier polishishing. Just an idea 😁

Man, i commented before the end, so i have to comment again. Thankyou for legitimately putting in this work. And actually showing people n not some time lapsed bs that someone makes it appear as tho they didn't break a sweat. This is beautiful afterwards. Also, i think people should realize, water stains n that, u might only be on this glass for 3 minutes, then entire thing if u know what ur doing. I could imagine a company that adds this level of polishing n then protect it with something amazing ur set for 20 years with maintenance n never get another scratch. I remember being in wildwood nj n went to a gas station with my brand new bmw 330e. Anyway nj they pump it for it. So my car sat for 3 or 4 days at the hotel a block from the beach. Yes there was sand on it. The scummy guy pumping the gas just starts cleaning the window n it wasnt until a few days later i completely realized what he did which was completely scratch micro scratches across my entire windshield i was so angry man. It wasn't like noticeable to the naked eye from the outside or interior, until you were driving with the sun above n in front of the car. Thats when u saw every little abrasion and it was so annoying to me. For 3 years of driving that every time i drove into sunlight i cussed that mf'er out. Its been 5 years n i can still picture myself going back there but hes lucky its so far away. I wish i knew about this at the time.

Great tip about the buffers with the stainless gears that greatly reduce noise. Been using a Makita corded one for over 25 years and hate the nauseating screaming noise the gears in it make.

You have to remember that your windhsield is safety glass, it is a laminate of 2 pieces of glass with a clear membrane in between, so if it breaks, it won't shatter into a million shards flying into your face. Your side windows are not safety glass, they shatter. That's why I have one of those multi tools that can cut through a safety belt and has a heavy end with a point to hit the middle of a side window to shatter it, in case you drive into a pond or lake or something. You won't be able to escape from your front windshield. That being said, be careful if you try to remove side window scratches, if you overheat the glass, it will shatter.

I’ve removed scratches to an acceptable level using ceraglass, misting water, a rayon pad, and a 3 inch da polisher with an 8mm throw. However I don’t know how to remove the haze I’ve created. Any tips for which combo I should use? I have access to lots of polishes and pads.

I cut a pad to fit an oscillating tool and repeated the process. Worked much better. Here’s what carpro suggested: “use ultracut polish with orange polish pad , in low to medium speed. it should remove the haze , spray eraser after or even during the polishing.”

Does it affect chip repair epoxy? Is it safe? How deep od a scratch will it remove? How much to replace the windsheild? I can get a replacement windshield from an auto wrecker for around 100$ and install it myself. There should be a machine you attach to the car that has tracks and spring pressure to automatically buff the window evenly and equally only thing you'd have to do is spray the compound and water.

I've used the powder from home depot for water spots on household glass and it works with a machine. Doing anything by hand is not fun pr practical.

Scratches that are more like sand pitting, many many tiny chips that aren't visible until you are driving into the sun. can those be polished out and will there be any coating on the windshield...BMW 330CiC, 2005

Got off work today and started on my driver side window, it’s scratched to hell cause of the wide tires on my truck, they sling junk all over the side of my truck, well I got off at 2:30 and just went in cause it got to dark! 🤣🤣 gonna start again tomorrow! If you do it yourself it's very cheap, but also time consuming. I've done it myself because I find the process rewarding and I like saving money. Plus it's less of a waste on resources to continue using the same windshield. But paying someone else to do it is probably not worth it on a newer car. If you have a classic that you want to preserve then it's a different matter.

Thanks! I just got a new-to-me 2013 Ford Expedition. I just noticed that the power windows all have vertical scratches. Apparently whoever detailed at the dealer failed to clean the trim at the base of the window and there is sand trapped in them.. I also have a 2001 Expedition and no scratches at all. It seems a softer, possibly soda glass is being used on newer generation. No real question, except will it be easier to polish these out given the softer glass?

This is alright for light scratches and swirls, it's still super messy though. In my experience cerium oxide compacts itself into pits and I have yet to get it out 6 months later. Tried solvents, gasoline, repeated washes. Pinkish-orange dots all over my windshield, apparently only an acid can dissolve it. I think I'm going to experiment using oil and diamond pads next

Diamond 3m 3000. Wet paper. As the pad. And wheel acid diluted 10/1 will dissolve hardwater and fisheyes. Use gloves. Rinse and repeat. Wet every thing first. Keep it wet!!! Ceramic glass top polish works as well. Keep it wet!!!!

The windshield could have microscopic sand blasting from debris, we would recommend trying this video's polishing method to remove them. If they don't come out with CarPro Ceriglass, then you know the defects are either in the window itself or possibly on the inside.

Might work, but that's a lot of water to throw on electronics... And if there's a coating on the screen you'll have to remove all of it... Plus, with the cost of polish and pads, unless you plan on doing your windshield too, it might not be worth salvaging an old monitor that you can replace with a LCD for a hundred bucks...

I wouldn't do that. At least not with that much pressure. Those old TV screens were not very strong compared to a windshield. The glass is thinner and more brittle.

I tried this on my Alfa Romeo 156. There was a few light-ish wiper marks on the driver's side. By the time I got the scratches out, the inner laminate part of the windscreen had clouded in a small spot (15cm round) Once I saw that I decide never to try it again.

Will this technique work on the kind of deep scratches you can feel with your fingernail? If not is there a product out there?

This technique will not work for that. For something that deep you need to grind the glass. Literally sand the scratch out. Think of a scratch in glass as a valley or a void in the surface. Make the surface flat again, one way is by filling the valley, such as in the case of chip repair, but that yellows and fails. Or the other option is to remove glass all around the scratch bringing the entire surface down to the same level as the bottom of the scratch. Obviously this is not a normal “DIY” process. Believe me, we have repaired countless DIY attempts. You really have to understand the process and have the muscle memory to do it without distorting the glass. That said, there are companies such as ours that CAN repair deep scratches in glass. Or you can purchase the materials from a company such as Glass Renu, if you wish to attempt the repair on your own. Usually with automotive glass, unless it is a high end exotic or an irreplaceable pane of glass, it’s best/cheaper to replace or pay your glass deductible with your insurance. Hope this helps😊

I’m gonna try this method. Thing is I’m not getting out scratches, I’m getting out etched in wheel acid on my windshield from about 9 months ago. I tried sanding & using heavy compound & it didn’t do anything. I really hope this method works.

@@BlackHawkPSU I used acid to loosen dirt on roof after not washing truck for a while. I’ve done it before, but I guess this time I let it sit a little too long & it ran down the windshield. Good thing it wasn’t outside in the sun while I did this.

the comment about watches and jewelry is a good one, for almost *any* Metalwork, paintwork, polishing...there's danger to both the surfaces, and your fingers, when something scratches, or gets caught on a rotating disc, lathe, drill, sander...

I have a 1956 Belair and the first time I turned on the wipers, it created a thin scratch/gouge for the entire arc of the wiper path. If I use the method demonstrated in your video, do i polish the entire windshield, just the driver’s side where the scratch is located or just along the path of the scratch?
