Some of the names originate from further North... Starboard comes from Stear board. A long oar or paddle placed on the rear of a longboat to the left of the back of the boat to steer it. Longboats come from further north than England? 😁 Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

Good video. Worth re-watching. Made me think of ideas for other videos that may be useful eg a series on dangerous situations (1) negotiating into marina berth with failed engine (2) man overboard (3) mast separates from rigging (4) anchor drifting / not holding (5) tide + wind blowing onto shore/rocks (6) rudder breaks or fails (7) wheel fails (8) batteries fail on long passage.
