Does sanitizing put bleach in the tank? Does it also put it in the filters? Isn’t the yellow hose two way? How do I make sure I’m not drinking bleach after 24 hours? Suppose the tank has mold or fungus in it, wouldn’t the tank need to be filled to get the bleach all inside the tank?

Good morning ☕️ great questions and we appreciate you reaching out to us. The sanitation process allows bleach to flow into system and through all lines. Bleach enters the tank and cleans it as well. With the system shown in this video, it’s the very first/initial sanitation process performed after install. All sanitation procedures to follow are performed using the sanitation cartridge kit. Below is a link to our video showing this procedure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6uxqHRuaMaIZsksi=z-ha_uCLE-RIMpg0 The filters and membrane will be fully removed during the sanitation process and won’t be harmed. This is because the sanitation kit will be installed and manage the flow and operation. When you bleach the system you have the RO faucet open, and after bleaching when you turn the cold water supply open you still have the RO faucet open, so why doesn’t water start coming out the RO system right away? You then turn the house faucets on and still no water coming out the RO spout with the valve open. As soon as I turn the water supply back on I get water coming out of my RO faucet. Is this wrong? I did open the RO valve beforehand to try and drain the tank. Does pressurizing for 2 hours happen with the RO faucet open? If so mine is sending water out the whole time.

Hey Michael - quick question - after the sanitize procedure for 2 hours, I turned on the RO faucet and unlike yours, which was a trickle, mine had tons of pressure! Why? Is it OK?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 4 ай бұрын
@@tomatojuice12 Good morning ☕️ Are you referring to the 2-hour pressure test or the sanitation process? After initial install, you will be guided to perform the 2-hour pressure test which will fill the system with water so you can check for leaks. Once faucet is open, all the water will flow out in a normal pressure fed manner, which is normal and what you are hoping for.
@tomatojuice12
@tomatojuice12 4 ай бұрын
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thank you for replying Michael. What you said makes sense. In my initial question, I meant right after the 2 hour pressure, I opened the RO faucet, and the water was strong but in the manual, it says it will be a trickle. It did eventually slow to a trickle after an hour or so. So all is fine? As I type this email, it is still trickling as it has been 12 hours and I need to let it trickle for another 12 hours.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 4 ай бұрын
@@tomatojuice12 Thanks for the reply. The purging process will follow the 2-hour pressure test. During the 24 hour purging process, the RO faucet will remain in the full open position and during this 24 hour period, the water will trickle. At times, it’s common that the water will stop for 10 seconds or so. After the 24 hour purging process, you will close the RO faucet and allow it to fill. Water is not safe to drink until after the 24 hour purging process. 😁👍🧰

So this doesn't hurt the installed filters? It looks like the yellow tube you put the bleach in goes toward the filters... Can you clarify?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders
@DIYwithMichaelBorders 5 ай бұрын
@@Excellence478 Good morning, great question. The instructions guide us to insert the bleach into the yellow tubing that we pulled off the tank. Once the yellow tub is reconnected to the tank, the bleach will…thankfully…never route back to the filters. This is because all water inside tank has already cycled through the three filter cartridges, and will only then be routed up the tubing and out of the faucet. 👍

I’m very frustrated with this system. I changed filters, purged it twice now and still have small black particles in the water (charcoal from filters). (Ge told me to purge again if still black particles). They are sending new filters now. After the second purge, and going to use water the next day, I noticed the water trickles out. It has no pressure? Why is this? And after seeing charcoal still, I went to drain the tank a 3rd time and realized the tank drained so quickly that it is barely getting filled up. Any clues what might be wrong? Thanks for your videos and your help.

Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. Since you have replaced filters and purged a few times…and tank is not pressurizing, it might be the tank. The internal tank bladder might be deteriorating however that’s unlikely. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders I need to go get a pressure gage and a pump to put air back in. The water still dribbles out and it also tastes a little funny to me. Not metallic, not salty, but maybe musty. I don’t know what it is. I think I need to sterilize and bleach the tank. Can I do it by taking out the top filter, draining the tank, and following your steps? (I can’t turn the water shut off valve as it’s stuck so doesn’t removing the top filter also stop the water flow? Should I depressurization before I sterilize or sterilize first? I would think depressurize first because the tank will need pressure to force the bleach out. I’m thinking of just throwing this whole thing away and going with another kind as it’s very frustrating. I have extra filters still seemed though that makes me not want to give up yet.

@@wstt4 Thanks for the follow up, it’s best at this point to perform a full sanitation process on the entire system…best way to clean out the tank as well as all the water lines. Have you purchased the sanitation cartridge kit? If not, that’s a must to ensure the process is performed correctly. Once tank and lines are clean, it’s a great time to bring your tank up to the manufacturer’s recommended psi for best system performance…since again, the tank must be completely empty before adding air. 😎👍

Thanks for watching & sharing this. The first thing we need to check is the actual psi reading in your tank. If your tank is very light, it is empty and we can use that to our advantage. It’s best to check the psi when the tank is empty and in most standard reverse osmosis systems, the tank psi when empty should be between 5-7 psi... however it’s extremely important to reference your specific model owners manual to get the proper reading. If the psi is too low, you will need to re-pressurize tank. Below is a link to a video showing how to do this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5vKXqF9rdV1g5o Let’s start there. 😎👍🔧🔩

So I connected it all and turned on t he Water and the filter box spit out Water and leaks. Nice.... it does not leak from the hoses which I did it correctly, but the unit is faulty. It leaks from the inside. After hooking it all up its full of water and now a wet mess. Back to Home depot

Sixto Franco Thanks for watching & is the system brand new & newly installed? If yes, the common cause of this is loose water lines. Have you pinpointed a possible waterline that is leaking? If yes, apply friendly inward pressure to secure line to pressure fitting. Keep us posted. Us fellow DIY’ers need to stick together! 😎👍🔧🔩

Sixto Franco Thanks for the reply. Is system brand new? If yes, this is common believe it or not as the system is pressurizing for the first time. You will definitely want to monitor any leak over the next few days of use to verify it goes away. Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩

I thought you couldn't run bleach through the membrane filter without damaging it?
@dellmyer

The Clorox is added after the RO membrane, so it just goes through the post-filter and the output lines. Also, there is a check valve after the RO filter. See the diagram on page 7.

@Misterlaxx d That's a good question, I think if you follow the 3 ml or if you go over by a little, I don't think that will hurt the system, but what is interesting is you are purging the system for 24 hours, it must take a long time for the system to get rid of the Clorox, because the old GE system you would fill up the system 3 times and drain each time, and that had 2 tbsp of Clorox. I taped the eyedropper to the tank so I don't lose it.
