I have a new unit and after setting it all up, doing the purges and everything, the tank is still not accepting water. There is a audible trickle of water out the black (drain) tube, so not sure what I am doing wrong. Any thoughts? On top of that, they turned the tank fill tube into a yellow tube instead of clear, so it's hard to see how much (if any) is making it in the tank and not.

I need help? I have a Watts brand 3 stage reverse osmosis system. It continues to drain water down the drain making a gurgling sound. Manual reads, to pump 4-7 PSI max. No more then 7 PSI in empty tank. I have 7 lbs PSI in tank. Still drains water with gurgling sound down the drain. Is there a way I can bypass this to stop losing water down the drain? I know to bypass has to do with the red & black water line. Can I simply, pull the red line off and plug it off to bypass it. My State doesn't have that code to have this safety thing. Thanks.

Thanks for watching & sharing this. Have the filters been replaced recently? Even if 1 of the 3 filters gets clogged up, it will make system perform like this. We haven’t tried that way, below is a video that shows us discussing a bypass valve. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWqQpYCfrK57rac 😎👍

I have a friend that has the exact same system in this video. They didn't use the OEM faucet that came with the system. They used one that was built into their sink faucet. It only has one hose connection. They connected the red line from the flow restrictor to the drain saddle which is mounted high up on the drain like yours is. Do they need to change how they have it configured? I was thinking that they could build a small shelf on the side under the cabinet, high enough to raise the filter housing above the drain saddle, so that the waste water is going downhill into the drain. Would that be a good way to handle this? Also, should they install a one-way check valve into the red line since they're not using an air gap?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & that’s a great question. Unfortunately we haven’t modified this unit in that way & can’t give you a confident recommendation. Lots of different ways however the best will be the one inline with keeping system to proper code so it doesn’t fail inspection if house is sold. 😎👍
@jonathansanders281 Жыл бұрын
In the configuration you describe, if the drain is clogged at the trap (or below) and you fill the sink with water, you could backfeed the RO system with dirty water - that is why they design it to use a special faucet with an air gap. It isolates the brine line by discharging above the highest possible waterline of the sink.

After releasing the pressure from the tank to drain it, did you add any air (pump) back in? How much pressure should an empty (or full) tank have? Any help is appreciated. Your vid is great!
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & great question. With the tank empty, you will want to bring the air pressure to the manufacturer recommended psi which can be found in instructions manual. Below is a link to our video showing this procedure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5vKXqF9rdV1g5o 😎👍

Morning: I have seen a lot of vids and I am sort of worried I dont know what my problem is. My tank seems to not be fillig up and when I turn faucet on after about 10 seconds I hear like a vibration somewhere. Also, I notice after i turn it off, I lose water to the main drain. But, its not continuous. I am ready to change the flters on my system..just changed a year ago. Now, I see it could be the tank and pressure. Thoughts?
@DIYwithMichaelBorders11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, any update? Over-pressurizing the tank can cause this. It’s similar to using an air compressor that only has 10 psi in it to bring a tire psi up to 30psi…..the tire will always over-power the compressor and you’ll never be able to get the tire pressure up to 30. In this example, the tire is the tank. If the tank has far more psi then it’s supposed to have, it will always overpower the water trying to enter it…and always push the water away from tank. Keep us posted. Also, below is a link to our reverse osmosis Playlist. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders well I sat down to tackle issue tonight. But initially we could not for the life of us get that last housing unit to turn to change filter. So, we ordered a new unit. It’s slightly too small and the elbow heads when turned all the way create a totally different angle and so my black n blue lines won’t reach to clip in or they will kink. I can’t win my man! So going to try to order another one that’s bigger size. Wife thinks it’s the tank somehow but I want to change last filter first

Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. That’s a bummer you’re experiencing issues with your new system. By chance did you check the psi on the tank? A tank that’s over-pressurized will actually overpower system and not allow water to flow into tank…leading to continuous draining through drain line. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders No. I changed basic large water filters in it about 2 years ago. No issues. It did have weird sound for a bit, like a vacuum knocking. But it gone away after a month. This is new. Just started running non stop. into the pipe. I hear it all day. So I shut off the main tank by twisting the top blue knob.

@@donkeyrider Thanks for the reply, depending on the age of your filters... it’s possible that they need to be replaced. With our specific unit, the manufacturer recommends replacing filters every six months & membrane once a year.

Soooooo, did it work?! What a cliffhanger. But, I did learn how to remove one of those hoses. It seems to me that these damn things give people a lot of problems. It looks like you had a bunch of leaks all over the place. I see a home for mold and a higher water bill not knowing if you're system is continually draining. Headache if you ask me.
