Hell Delos Tribe! WE'RE BACK!!!! 835 hours of HARD LABOR, that’s how! This is Boat Work in Exotic Places in its truest fashion! After 4 months of visiting family and exploring Iceland and the Svalbard we finally return home, back to Delos in Grenada. We get to work straight away by creating a Boat Work To Do list with all the tasks we need to get her ship-shape and back in the water where she belongs. Our major tasks involve repainting the bottom, fixing our bow thruster, and grinding the keel back to bear metal and building back all the layers. Working 10 hours days we go step by step through all the jobs to give a taste of what a major haul out is like for Delos and her crew.
Subscribe to our Sailing Videos, we have 5 seasons worth!

It is so so good to have you back again. Brian, the biggest change is you. You have lost so much weight you're almost not you anymore!!!! Almost half of you perhaps. Kazza, Alex and Brady, you all look so much more alive and switched on!!!! Oh - you do as well Brian, the skinnier version of you tho lol. You all need to invent deck exercises that are fun to do; to keep you fit and healthy. Congratz Kazza and Brian on your engagement - have you made a date yet? More important - are you going to share it with us before or after the wedding. Maybe to satisfy all your fans, a live feed on the day? And last but not least - LEESIR, it was so very good to see you again, you need to come back and do a few more days/weeks/months with the crew.......seriously!!!! I hope you all had a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year :)

Sure like these reconditioning videos. There's a lot to be said for taking the time to bring things back to as close as you can to their original condition. Time well spent. Brings back the old days of building engines and the tricks Brian was talking about are seriously a cool thing, cause the money you can spend on special tools designed for seals and bearings can really add up. The corroding and breaking of the clamps are an example of cheap and very thin plating on the hose clamps that you run into when having to use parts that are not from trusted manufacturers.

Leesir popping in at the end. Kudos to her and her editing skills. Have been working to finish the bottom of my boat currently, hope to get it in the water in a week or two. Now busting my butt putting on the gelcoat layers. I had to epoxy my keel a lot as well. does make you feel good seeing the smooth results. Now on to next episode to see what top coat you use. Also, saw the logo, excellent touch. Will be custom painting mine when I get a chance. The things you can do when doing the work yourself. Also, cool(literally) tip about the epoxy hardening duration, by using ice. Also, saw the boat shop in the background , huge plus when working on a boat to get it in the best shape.

Love this episode, only found your channel a little while go about to go back and watch the early years. But having been a racing sailor for over 50 years now and remembering back over my boating years which started with a family sailboat rental on the east coast as our family had one of the only swagging tools out side of Annapolis MD. I started custom rigging small one design boats at the young age of 11 even did a little repair on a tall ship that docked in the harbor as a teenager. But over the many years of my life I have owned fiberglass shops. Can not count number of times turned into a smurf (little blue guy) sanding repairing and painting boat bottoms ( good job using protective gear) Love your channel and all your adventurers. Be safe keep the technical and repair videos coming sure a lot of people learn what it is to keep boat safe and healthy.

Hose clamps come in several designs, there are a few designs that incorporate a worm screw, some are more prone to failure. Be careful not to over tighten, stainless clamps tend to break easier than steel ones. One trick is to wrap hose with 2 or 3 layers of black electricians tape where the clamp will "bite". There are also spring clamps (need a special pliers) but the best are barrel clamps. Last for ever.

I REALLY liked this episode!!! When you include us in the work and difficulties of maintaining things, it makes the energy more real, and ya really feel the love that gets put into proper care of the boat/home! I've watched other channels where they just throw money at it, making the boat just feel like a tool and there's just no love or connection. Plus it's really interesting to see how these things are done and the kinds of things that can go wrong. Thanks for sharing all this!! Lynn

This is one of the most interesting episodes of all. Brian always shows us the variety of things that break on a boat during passages and when Delos is moored, but to see what you put up with out of necessity, acknowledge in the moment, and shove to the back of your mind until the time come when you can get it done is really interesting. The camaraderie that develops when people do work like that together and then sail together must be great. Kiril is one interesting guy. Not only does he work on editing for many videos from South Africa, he also joins the crew for some of the hardest work that will done all season. It doesn't look like he will be sailing with the crew to enjoy the spoils of his labour either. He is in an amazing place, though. I lived on Vietnam for five years up in the Hanoi area. It is a magical country.

A note to Cpt. Brian and the team : When handling composite materials, please always wear a face mask rated at FFP3 to protect your air ways, & impervious gloves as part of your PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). When working with carbon fiber we were instructed to wear 2 pairs of high quality thick latex gloves. Glass fibers might not be as dangerous as carbon fibers, but good OSHA practices can save from health issues.
