Dear mr just josh, I hope you're doing awesome! I'm Salomo, and I'm a huge fan of your KZbin channel. Your videos are super cool and have taught me so much about tech and gadgets. I'm reaching out to you because I really need your help. As a 13-year-old student who loves exploring technology, I dream of having my own laptop. It would make a huge difference in my schoolwork and hobbies. With a laptop, I could do research for projects, write essays, and even learn coding and video editing - things I'm really passionate about. I promise to use the laptop responsibly and take good care of it. It would mean the world to me and open up so many opportunities for learning and creativity. Thank you for considering my request. Your generosity would make a big difference in my life, and I'm excited about the possibility of learning even more from your videos with a laptop of my own. Best wishes, Salomo

Similar thing happened with me. When I bought the Spectre 14, I call HP to enquire if they are including pen and dongles s I saw on many laptop reviews in youtube. They said they only include Pen in the UK. And just when I was about hang on the phone to buy it online, the guy on the call said that if I buy from them over the call, I can get a discount. I saved £200 on the laptop. I got the £1699 one for £1502 .

The latest Ideapad 5 Pro 14" with an AMD cpu (model 14AHP9) has a Ryzen 7 8845HS. I do understand that this is a rebranded 7840HS, which is available in the previous gen 8. However, the gen 9 has a bigger battery and a better screen (2.8k OLED 120hz), and that swung it for me. I also had the option to upgrade from 16 to 32GB ram for an extra ~4% on the price. Direct from the UK Lenovo store with a business discount, it was a very good deal - a no brainer for the specification, tbh. I did consider second hand / refurbished previous gen models, but didn't think the savings were large enough to negate the uncertainty of a second hand unit or the spec compromises of the older model. After a hands on in a local store with various manufacturers' laptops, I had my heart set on a Lenovo Ideapad & AMD processor with the 780M iGPU as it seems quite a capable performer for games. Thank you for your great videos. They are extremely helpful 👍

How are you finding the laptop, bit worried about hinge and general build quality
@JamesGadbury5 ай бұрын
@@quc522 I'm really pleased with the laptop. Build seems high quality & solid. Product feels premium considering the price point for the package / performance. Hinge is smooth but I must admit, there's a bad reputation for Lenovo laptop hinges and that makes me nervous. I have no idea if this latest hinge design has been improved/is better. I'm thinking of taking out the extended warranty for peace of mind!

I bought this same model. Lenovo Spain shop. It came with 8845HS, 2.8k 120hz oled, 16GB of RAM for 750€ (32GB would have been 830€). Barely any options with OLED at that price, and definitely no newest-gen hawk point. Very happy with it, much better speakers than my previous laptops. Build quality is very good, my partner has an Asus Zenbook that creaks a lot when held or grabbed, mine doesn't flex or make any crackling noises. Very satisfied with build quality

I used to work at Apple Retail: they do price matching at the retail stores IF you can show them the price of the brick and mortar listing of a competing offer (meaning no Amazon, but matches Best Buy if it’s an in store offer). If you’re a college student, that’s also a discount (though it doesn’t stack)

Same here, but sourced from a business reseller clearing out old stock. Often my supplier of choice will even convert a Belgium machine they want gone to US-intl for free, along with discounting it to second-hand level prices to get the unwanted SKU out of their warehouse. Here they do forget to change the BIOS setting to match, but I'll be digging in there to swap the function key default function anyway and it works without that change too.

I did it for Lenovo. They had a chat function in the bottom corner of the website and you could type directly to a sales rep. The chat function even stated "talk to us to get the best deals" or something similar. Again, Josh already said that Lenovo inflates their MSRP so that their discounts look more impressive - but either way, the sales rep knocked an extra 10% off the price (so it went from 20% off to 30% off)

I dont like buying refurbished. A lot of the time there is a well hidden defect that their qc didn't catch, but the consumer caught and returned it. From my personal experience: -motherboard problem, once every month the pc has a boot loop and it takes like 20 minutes of pluging/unpluging to get it through to the OS -jack doesn't work when plugged into power (power leaking somewhere ofc) -combo jack works for heaphones, but not for microphone -wifi sometimes breaking (that was an old xps, and i lost SO MANY HOURS on that) Imo it's better to buy new. Used is better too, average person mixed with scammers is more trustworthy than the companies nowadays.

I realize U and HS are basically the same in AMD's case, so this is a nitpick, but 8840HS isn't exactly the same as last year's 7840HS - it's the same as 7840U. AMD themselves have confirmed this on their site. 7840HS' "successor" (read, rebrand) is 8845HS.

Prioritize RAM since you will probably be running virtual machines. Look for CPUs that support hyper threading and virtualization. Look for Linux compatibility. If you're a nerd like me, you will probably end up switching to Linux. You will run your heavier workloads on servers or on the cloud, so you don't need a powerful CPU. Focus on a good keyboard, touchpad, and display. I work in ML and I use an ancient laptop as my personal laptop (i5-3230M, 12GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB SSD, 500GB HDD, Fedora Linux). My work laptop is a Thinkpad i5-8550U, 16GB RAM, Windows 10. Excellent video, with one mistake repeating Apple rubbish marketing. They do not have excellent retail value, p it doesn't matter what percentage a laptop retains, what matters is overall number lost by depreciation. Example, my 600.00 2 + 1,000 lost about 80% in value. I could easily sell it for $200 The MacBook pro with less performance what's 2,400. If that only lost 50%, (it lost more but that doesn't matter) the buyer still lost more than double what I paid for my laptop. This is true in just about every supposed case of excellent resale on a Mac. It gets worse, suppose like myself you take the extra $1,800 and put it in your 401, or annuity if your 401 is maxed out. Well you've almost doubled that 1800 dollars extra you spend on your overpriced Apple I'm not against buying Apple products when the need presents, I have an air myself, but forget that excellent resale value bull, it's sleight of hand bologna

Have you ever used a laptop you reviewed for more than 3 months ? Hinges on half these laptops fall apart very quickly I see them in my repair shop all the time. I hate KZbin "reviewers".
