How to SAVE Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled and bring it back for this generation!

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass has breathed new life into MK8DX, and I feel like you could do effectively the exact same with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, a game that stopped being updated about 8 months after release, and then slowly died off.
In this video I'll talk about what I'd do if I was in charge of Xbox and wanted to leverage an already popular game and bring it back to life, through new tracks, characters and even a new story campaign from a classic Crash Bandicoot title.

Honestly if they just did a straight port of Nitro Fueled to PC with all the current content and released it on Steam, that would get a lot of people playing again right off the bat. They could boost those numbers up quite a lot with crossplay, removing or at least toning down the microtransactions, and adding in new options for graphics settings such as turning off motion blur and upping the fps to at least 60. If they wanted to boost it up even more, they could give us tools to create our own race tracks and implement Steam Workshop support.

Yeah exactly, port it to PC with a track creator/modding tools and unlocked frame rate etc. Crossplay would also make a massive impact on the player base. I mean I would even replay the events on PC to be honest if they did them again lol.

To be fair, the microtransactions weren't even that bad compared to a lot of free-to-play games nowadays: There was only one currency and you could earn it at a steady enough pace by playing online for an hour during Wumpa Time. Just by playing online for an hour a few times a week, I'd always get enough wumpa coins to buy out all the new season's stuff in the shop and I was able to clear out the shop entirely by the time the game stopped updating without having to drop a dime other than for the initial purchase of the game itself.

But most important: optimize the performance of the game in terms of loading times and online servers. No modern game should spend over a minute to load a freaking track.

@@SSBFreak85 I'd have a lot less of a problem with the MTX if the offline rates were the same as the online rates and the rewards weren't gated behind an internet connection. Especially considering I live in a town that gets occasional outages whenever the weather gets bad, and the weather gets bad frequently depending on the time of year (mostly early April - late June). Not everyone lives in a major city, just being connected to the internet consistently isn't the given that a lot of these big companies want to pretend it is. Even if you are able to keep up an internet connection though, it really doesn't help how unreliable getting into a match is in this game. The matchmaking system itself is both flawed and buggy as everyone has to start all over if the host leaves and even if the host doesn't leave everyone might just get stuck in an infinite wait for the race to begin at the starting line and have to restart the matchmaking process anyway. Trying to get more than the stuff I care the most about was always too big of a pain for me to bother with because of it, and with how few people are playing these days the problem is only worse.

Here's what I'd do: - 60 fps - cross platform play - ranked mode - no items mode - fix physics quirks (remove invisible walls, speed ghost, polswid) - free to play weeks - most importantly: PC port (not cross play) and allow modding. This would literally give the game infinite life span and make the fanbase insanely strong - new content: Bring in characters from a bunch of other Microsoft ips, this would draw in a lot of players. Spyro, Skylanders, Blizzard games, Halo, Doom, Minecraft etc. Have new tracks based on these characters

If you haven't seen it, a new mod for the original PS1 CTR was released last week, that adds online multiplayer! It's been breathing new life into the original CTR.

the tracks from Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D already are the Tag Team Racing tracks slightly modified. But yeah, the tracks from Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2 are very unique and would be great in a modern CTR game. Also for the new characters you didn't included the recent new characters (Female N.Tropy, Tawna Alt., the Shnurgle, and Catbat)

I think the game should have new battle arenas. There should be those that reuse elements from Coco Park, Prehistoric Playground, Spyro Circuit, Nina's Nightmare, Koala Carnival, Gingerbread Joyride and Megamix Mania. And an arena themed after the Time Twister machine.

I was thinking the same exact thing and literally wanted the same things added. Only thing would be cool is a brand new mode like the ring rally which was very fun. Maybe they can re-imagine the stunt mode from CTTR and add stunt arenas

I respect the video and what you're saying. Maybe these ideas may work. But I dont think it would be a deal for me. The biggest thing that kept me away from the game was 2 basic things. The characters. and The vast feeling of racing alone. I only played the original CTR and a few Crash games. So the character attachment to seeing all of these random characters that I dont know about feels alienating. Thats just a personal take. I'm only familiar with Crash, N Cortex, CoCo, Aku Aku, and Tiny. Every other character I came to know through CTR first, Although I grew to love Nina, the goth girl aesthetic is pretty cute. I know this is a bad take but I really believe those small things can make a difference. In Mario Kart i'm familiar with a lot of Characters. Except Pauline, and maybe thats why they hesitated to make her a character. 2nd Problem: Lack of engagement in races. Yeah I'm not a professional but racing alone is boring period. There is too many underlying details to keep up. Some players might not even know how to boost drift, let alone know what a preserve is or sacred flames. It's ok to have it, but you gotta remember the newer players have to have a winning chance or you'll just lose the new players that could potentially become seasoned players. I got this in Mario Kart while racing Tough Japanese players when I was new. And it pushed me to get a little better at the game and even take wins. But that's my take. if it was more chaotic and more player to player engagement. I might have played it a little longer. Unfortunately it might be damaged beyond repair. For me personally what needs to happen is port the game to PC and have more waves involving more Battle Arenas, like a Spyro themed one. They could add new tracks if they wanted to but then how do you go above the Developer Times in the Time Trials? That's my concern, unless they include another reward after the Master Wheels. If they were to add new tracks, they should add in the ones from Tag Team Racing whilst making new ones for GPs. Definitely should have the GPs every 3 months or so and should add in more Spyro characters. I'm not so keen on Crush and Gulp, more for possibly Cynder and Grendor. However, Crush and Gulp can be obstacles on the tracks, same with Bearminator, Madame Amberly and Tikimon. Tikimon could be a trigger obstacle when you hit those crates that switch the obstacle activity on the left or right hand side of the track. I'm 50/50 with CNK's Adventure Mode being featured in as that story is so heavily focused on Crash, his family, Cortex and his henchmen specifically, whereas in CTR, mostly anyone can be picked to race against Oxide to save the Earth (if you don't count Oxide himself and characters associated with Velo). In CTR's Adventure Mode, make Sparx have his own hints like the masks do if you play as Spyro, Hunter etc. The villains of Spyro should have an Uka Uka mask. WARNING: Contains spoilers of previous Crash games. As much as I am up for more Crash characters to be featured in the game, I don't think the Evil Twins would be good, especially since what their fates are at the end of Twinsanity (unless they have a comedic cutscene where Evil Crash pukes them up). Same with Willie Wumpa Cheeks, how can he come back after how he ends up at the end of CTTR? There needs to be work around these.

Always busy on the phone, while decently squeezing in part of his victory dance and such but well, now that the OG CTR got his online mode working there is barely any room for this game anymore, mod support and such is in the works tho. But at this point we already know that Activision likes to forget about old IPs unless it's CoD...

I definitely agree with all of the additions you suggested but I think a brand new game would make more sense. I think a problem with reviving Nitro-Fueled is that the art style borrows from the N. Sane Trilogy, and the two newest Crash games (4 and Rumble) use a brand new art style. Promoting Nitro-Fueled when it has the old art style would be a bit jarring and inconsistent IMO. In order to completely let go from the old art style, I think a new game is the best or maybe the only option. My ideal scenario/series of events: - Spyro 4 gets released (which I think is happening anyway) - Toys for Bob makes another deal with Microsoft/Acti for a new project and it's a huge racing crossover with mostly Crash and Spyro characters (called "Crash & Spyro Racing") - The trailer gets revealed, and days before release TfB surprises everyone by adding Rare mascots Banjo, Kazooie, and Conker (all of whom are also a part of Microsoft) I have loads of several random ideas for this hypothetical racing game, but I'd spend hours on it. 😂One of my ideas is to have a "Double Dash" mode where one player races and the other drives, much like Mario Kart: Double Dash and somewhat like Tag Team Racing.

Apparently the engine they chose to make CTR:NF with is not friendly towards making a PC port. If they can't even be bothered to do the minimal work involved with making it so PS4 users don't get kicked out of a lobby that has PS5 players in it, there's no way they're ever going to put in the effort to port it to the PC. Sadly I think the only way you'll see substantial online play with this series is with the new OnlineCTR mod that just came out for the classic version.

The engine is the same they used for the N.Sane Trilogy, the Alchemy engine. The reason it's not on PC has most likely to do with COVID delaying all the work at Activision and they decided to cut off the PC version since the game was on the Nvidia leak and many things from it came true like Shin Megami Tensei. There is most likely a build of the PC port that is unfinished though I feel like if we pressure Phil Spencer on Twitter the way Persona fans pressured Atlus to bring the game to PC/Switch we might have a chance to see it.

Where’d you hear that about the engine? As Manic said, they used Alchemy, but I’d be interested in hearing more. I think it’s likely that COVID and Activision being Activision screwed it over.

Lol, Viscount Boom Bang. You got me there. Well I think the game deserves at least one final update, adding 60fps for current systems, and adding crossplay between all the consoles. If possible, a PC port along with it would be huge. With that, the netcode needs to be fixed, as disconnects are way too frequent. Getting rid of the microtransactions and would be another great update. Nitro Kart story mode would be cool for sure, but at this point probably unnecessary, and it wouldn't have the draw that the original CTR story does.

I think that if CTR Nitro-Fueled were to come back, there should be an option to enable performance mode meaning that the game will run at 60 FPS. I’m surprised that it never got a port for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s also the same way with Crash and Spyro remasters. Maybe they should improve the online multiplayer. When ever I went online in CTR, there’s always issues. Sometimes, there would be invisible walls that appear in the track and power-ups are sometimes inconsistent when playing CTR online. I even got hit by an Aku Aku or Uka Uka power up when someone was a few inches away from me. That will be great if all of those issues are fixed.

Well Crash 4 has been completely forgotten about within a few months despite how awesome everyone thought it was. I'd argue that CNF stayed relevant longer than Crash 4. Funny how reviewers give TWoC crapp for it's imperfections yet that game is still remembered 20+ years later while the new games are only cared for when they're new lol

Seems more to me like you are just out of touch with the video game modding community. As for people playing the game, again it seems to me like you're just basing it on your personal experience and not anything more objective like actual statistics. It still gets over 100 players daily on just the Steam version alone, which is pretty typical for single player games after the launch hype wears off and doesn't take into account the battlenet or console versions.
