tip, if you need to split the rolls. do it before you take the outer plastic bag off, cut around the bag where the split is, grip the roll under your arm next to the factory split, then either grip the other half of the roll and bend, it will break, or give it a few hard taps with your free arm while griping with the other.. this way you never have to worry about is unravelling while splitting, and you wont come into contact with the fibres since the plastic is still on .

ok so if two layers are laid down crossing each other as demonstrated above, how can I fit boarding on top of this???
@moralesruizefren8615 Жыл бұрын
You can’t. You would have to raise the framing on the certain area you would like to board and Insulate under that.
@shanekhan6895 Жыл бұрын
You can get raised feet for boards to sit on as you can't squash the insulation down as it won't do its job

loft legs and loftzone do products that can help. We have loft leg XL with 400mm insulation. Worth every penny! house is good and toasty now

What about all the cables and ceiling light fittings?

Very nice presentation. I have one question. Is it nessecery to install both down of the insulation and up a breathable water vapor membrane? For the down part I am sure because the membrane is installed on the heat part but I think we also need the same on the upside because on summer we have the opposite phenomenon and the heat part is up. What's your opinion on the mater. I see you use knauf rock wool. I used this staff especially the tp 132 or 032 Rockwool

What about electrical cables that run in the loft space. Should they be under or on top of the insulation. Is this insulating material safe with electrical cables?

Once you place the 100mm, would it be better to use insulation boards like Celotex?

You forgot to menion paramount information. Vapor barrier inside the house and diffusion membrane on top of insulation in the loft, that way the migration of humidity in the insulation sistem is done correctly. Also, is the first time in 25 years of trade when I see someone cutting insulation with scissors..Nice video!

Why would you want to trap humidity inside the house and not let it breathe it out via the loft which is ventilated?
@nZebco10 ай бұрын
@@sledgex9 Vapor barrier has been invented to control the humidity trapped inside and controled with ventilation then only the accidental humidity from the walls to be let migrate out. But all of this depends of the area of the building, too many factors too account for. New standard means mandatory barriers both sides.

People have asked about a Vapour Barrier in the comments. Should there be one, where does it go and why havent you included one in this demo?

Hi. I’m trying to insulate my loft currently (I moved in recently and there’s barely any insulation up there currently). Every video I’ve watched says you must NOT lay insulation over cables and wires. Instead the insulation should go down first, and then the wires/cables get gently laid down on top. My problem is the wires and cables in my loft are underneath the joists, it in some cases fed right through the middle of the joists via some holes that have been drilled. So there’s no way I can physically get the wires above the insulation. Does anyone have any advice?

If you have any new ones layed, make sure they go above. Just go with it. Keep that heat in

What about flooring the loft? Can I board over the 3 inch stuff?
@steverathbone195411 ай бұрын
Hi You can purchase stand off's plastic and metal one's that you fix to the joists , place 4" and 8" insulation then the boards on top mainly for storage

Can you please tell my why you need to use 100mm deep roll for the base layer and then 200 mm throughout. 200 mm looks cheaper to buy and obviously thicker and warmer?
@SilverlineToolsTV10 ай бұрын
The joists in most attics are 100mm tall. So you fill those with the 100mm mineral wool and then lay the 200 on top so you don't have any gaps in your insulation.

I bought my house 7 years ago. Unfortunately, whoever laid the insulation had covered the vents in the brick wall, so my loft is now very smelly😢

To cut insulation down the predetermined lines cut using a sharp kitchen knife. Do not open the pack cut it whilst the packaging is intact. Many rolls of insulation have the llines marked for standard gaps in the rafters.

Man you made everything harder for yourself and made it harder for the homeowner to do. It’s way easier with precut batts. Buy a knife that is specifically for cutting insulation.
