its disgusting how Sony and MM just let this game whither away and die. They encouraged a community focused on creativity and imagination and then simply walked away from it instead of keeping it current...or even safe. There are countless less deserving game series out there that don't even come close to what this series accomplished yet are still carefully curated with a view toward the future. LBP was a priceless treasure that kids should have been able to pass along to their own children, but all they have are memories.

An LBP4 couldn’t really exist now. It would need to be some kind of full reboot/remake situation that takes the best bits of all 3 and streamlines them into a nice solid package. All 3 original games are cellotaped together on a awkward 18 year old engine. Full backwards compatibility would literally be impossible. I think a fresh slate would do the franchise good.
@EanFox710 ай бұрын
Hence why I think a remastered collection would work well. Then, if not an LBP4, then possibly revive the hub. I thought about a clean slate, which could work, but we’d still need all of the same tools and materials available to us through a remaster.

I still think a new LBP would be popular with kids today, too. I know there are a lot of us who have nostalgia, but I think we’d be in the minority. I’ve gotta say, I’m on big LBP nostalgia right now, and the worst part is that I have next to nothing to sate it with: I tried playing Dreams but I can’t play with my beloved Sackboy on here, and the game’s honestly so vast that I end up playing the same pinball level over and over again instead of trying new things. I tried playing LBP3 but the state that the game is in is extremely sad because you can’t access the servers at all. There’s even a place in the Ziggurat that’s supposed to help you discover online levels that basically serves no purpose at all now, and it makes me super sad! Next I will try Sackboy’s Big Adventure, but we all know that’s not the adventure we want for our Sackboy… I’m far more patient and creative now that I’m older, I even started a Planet Coaster channel because of that, but using my patience and creativity on Little Big Planet would be a childhood dream come true. I could try and make the ideas on LBP3, but why do we create if not to share our ideas with others? LBP4 would be an absolute godsend for people like me, but also I feel like it could become Sony’s Minecraft if done right! They just need a sustainable business model that keeps on giving, and I think the first games were already good examples of that. Toes crossed that it will happen my friends. I hope to see you sooner or later in the Imagisphere!
@thecolorw394110 ай бұрын
My idea of what I would want for the future of lbp in a perfect world would be for them to bring back their cancelled idea of LittleBigPlanet Hub, a free to play version of the game were you can purchase all past games and dlc separately. To add to this I would really love lbp to go multi-platform, some games should most definitely be exclusives (like spiderman or god of war etc) but as Xbox has kinda been doing, a multiplayer game to that scale will succeed best with as much accessibility as possible. Crossplay and the base game being free could absolutely skyrocket this game’s success (as long as they don’t have stupid stuff like battlepasses and whatnot) It upsets me so much that Sony has just abandoned this game and I want to to thrive and be accessible to EVERY player
@EanFox710 ай бұрын
Yeah LBP hub just got leaked too! It looked awesome, it’s a shame it never ended up releasing. Idk about the multiplat though. Sony needs exclusives just as much as Xbox does, and I just don’t see Sackboy being on Xbox. We want it to be accessible, but I don’t think it should go further than PC.
@thecolorw394110 ай бұрын
Well yes I don’t entirely disagree, however with the way Sony has been treating lbp over the last like 10 years I really don’t care who gets it as long as it lives on and is successful. Plus with it being a largely multiplayer/collaboration game with user generated content as its focus I think that although it may feel a bit off to see Sackboy on a device that’s not a PlayStation, it would definitely make lbp more successful. (A PC version would be amazing at the very least) Also yeah that hub beta had so much potential, it was way ahead of its time

@@EanFox7it's not a system seller, even on handhelds, or big budget like horizon forbidden west or god of war, so it should still move units, and as it targets kids, it'd be more popular on the switch which far more kid players reside than the ps5. Profits in multiplat can fund new Sony exclusives. I believe a 3rd of forgotten or cancelled series could get released on the switch either to go where the audience is or be a mature game in a less than saturated market like Xbox does with Bethesda games. Multi plats print money for Microsoft, so games like medievil or days gone can do the same being published by Sony since they are neither critically acclaimed nor big sellers.

Dude, I remember my dad selling my PS3 because he wanted to get the PS4 back when it was released. When we did get the PS4, the only games that were on it, I believe, were LBP3 and Lego Batman. At that time, LBP 3's story mode was unplayable because of this glitch in the story mode that prevented you from moving on into the next world, and it really pissed me off. I miss playing the levels from LBP1 and 2 because they're actually pretty fun, and the level designs are simple yet complex. I was also bummed at the fact that I couldn't play my PS3 games anymore, including LBP 1 and 2. And since the glitch prevented me from completing the story mode, I either played the create mode or I would play community levels, but there were barely any community levels at the time, or at least from what I remember. I hope one day that LBP will be on PC because it's been asked about by the community for a very long time now, and I'm very hyped for the upcoming game Restitched since it's basically a LBP-inspired game on PC.

I think that they could just literally bundle 1,2 & 3 with all dlcs a into a PS5 game and it would sell like a full new triple A hardware selling exclusive. Also if anything I would say that LBP4 should include even more ways to create your own stuff from scracth. Like literally everything, costumes, stickers, decorations, even characters with their own shapes and rigs just like the ones in LBP3 (and not just sackbots with a skin or papercutours with a mouth). I loved how they jumped from a kinda quirky physics based game where all the constractions were mechanical to a way more digital design in 2; like it literally feel like the jump from just redstone in minecraft to full command block lines but a way more intuitive interface. I think they should double and triple down on that if they ever make a 4 cause I always feel like... Oh man, this is so cool. But at the same time you had to do so many shenaningans to overcome the 2D limitations or do anything else than plataforming.
@EanFox710 ай бұрын
I’d be cool with new additions like that. I remember that you could make your own stickers back in the day with the camera tool but that was about it. I didn’t really have a problem with the 2D aspect of the formula at all, I was just never that great at creating hahah.

TBH, it would be nice if they did remaster of LBP and LBP2 for the PS5. I love playing the older games. It would be super cool if they would do what they did with the deluxe editions of the first and second game and give a few of the DLCs away for free with it. My favorite packs from it was the cats and dogs packs from the 2nd game since I've made tons of cute outfits. I will literally throw money at Sony if they released a bundled version the series on to a disk. But it is a shame that the servers went down for LBP3 recently, but I saw this happening when I got my PS5 and was playing LBP3 to find some of the levels I made back in high school. It would take a minute or two just to get into a level that had 0 players, even if it was a recent level made in LBP3. Maybe they will make LBP4, maybe they won't. It will defiantly give a breath of fresh air into the franchise, plus a new wave of creativity. Yeah, I'm no longer in the age demographic for the series, but it still holds a close place in my heart. I'll always keep those memories I've made with friends I've met in the game as well as the goofy stuff I made in it as well.

LBP's community never was very large, and it's unlikely UGC on a console will ever work again. Roblox got snug in that slot much easier. Sumo was rushed by Sony for the 2014 Holiday release, and blame was lain on their innocent studio. Sony I believe had dollar signs in their eyes and was probably hoping for a repeat of the PS3's launch of LBP but for the launch of the PS4. And now Sony sits dormantly on a beloved IP for potentially forever. Copyright laws I hate so much. LittleBigPlanet on the PC would the way only way forward, but for that to happen, Sumo or Mm would need millions of dollars to persuade Sony to give them the rights to the IP, port the and fix the buggy remains of LBP3 source code, and either find a new publisher, or hope it sells good enough on Steam to take a loan out. The children who played LBP are now working adults with PCs and Steam accounts, it's the only sensible way LBP could be successful and transition to live service.

I never had a PS4 or PS5, but I always had a PS3 for long, I remember playing online on Little Big Planet 1, 2 and 3 on the PS3 but I miss 1 and 2 the most as they’re the two versions that will never get online again and it’s just so nostalgic and sad because Sony literally could have kept the servers for PS3 if they wanted to.

I was 9 years old when this game dropped. My parents picked me up this game after failing to find a Sims game I wanted for the PS2. This was my first PS3 game I’ve ever played. This game introduced me to online multiplayer and it was the greatest memories I’ve ever had playing video games. I’m now 25 years old and still think about the series to this day. I truly hope this series doesn’t die. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was a great game, but it’s nowhere close to LBP’s impact. Remastering the trilogy would probably be the greatest thing to ever happen. Fingers crossed Sackboy and the LBP series lives on. 🤞🏽🥺

since LBP3 is almost ten years old now, ( and with SABA being 4 years ago. ) I don't mind the SABA platformer being like a prequel / side project story game, I feel like LBP4 should be developed more than ever, if not a spinoff like SABA 2 (or free DLC in the game that isnt just costume packs). Or they could take the Pokemon Legends route of having a origin story with much to discover and create, Sony and MM have so much potential to do with the character.
@EanFox710 ай бұрын
I feel like LBP has never really been story centric though. Every game has had one, but they’re all pretty forgettable. They’ve always been about the creation aspect. If they could somehow give SABA a create mode, I think I’d be more open to it.

I'm so excited, now being married and with a child, to show my daughter and future kids the games I grew up with. LBP was one of the top games on that list. While the story is great, without the access to the community levels, there is so much they're going to be missing out on and I hate that I can't carry such a memorable experience forward to them.
@TheLostYeti10 ай бұрын
What is rough on this topic is that i feel that the next logical step for LBP4 was to go 3D platformer like Sackboy a Big Adventure did. This would make backwards compatibility with LBP 1 - 3 much more difficult. This is why I felt that MM went a different direction with Dreams to allow for that 3D elements. That said from a past creator the 2D build of LBP was a great level of accessibility to creators where it did not take a ton of knowledge or experience to make a good if not great level. The barrier to entry for play create share was much lower. I'd love to see a remaster of the series on modern gen consoles, but i fear that the series has run its course. Give me a reboot or a remaster and i would be over the moon... I just don't see it happening.
@EanFox710 ай бұрын
I’d be cool with a 3D format if it were compatible with level creation. I remember playing Sackboy and thinking that it’s obvious why the create mode wasn’t included, because I have a hard time seeing how they would allow the average player to use those tools. Maybe they could make a game that is capable of both?

(Hearing about the recent departure of Sumo Digital from the LittleBigPlanet series (I believe what happened?)) It Would be absolutely wild (and a dream) if a different game company could step up and put the love and care (we fans are asking for) that Sumo and MM seemingly no longer want to give LBP into (either a remaster of LBP or a genuine LBP4) game for all of us fans out there. I mean, THQ Nordic is doing it with the recent announcement of Epic Mickey ReBrushed, (another childhood game of mine) and they’re doing a very great job at giving us fans of the series an opportunity to play this title again! So maybe, just, maybe… This game studio who’ll listen to our cries of a new/remastered game of LBP will give us a new chance of playing this series once again. But until then, we’ll have to keep asking and hope that we get one. And so I ask my fellow LittleBigPlanetians, how do you think this sounds to you?

Bro!!! I'm 52 and have been playing games since pinball. LBP is in my opinion the most creative game ever made, that also gives the users the ability to be creative alongside the developers. I totally agree with everything you said in this video, Sony would be crazy to allow this game to die. I would gladly buy EVERY LBP again in a remaster, and would actually buy a PS5 to have access to it, but would much Rather see them release it to all consoles and Steam as I own 3 Xbox systems for me and my younger kids, I also have the Nvidia Shield android TV box and would buy them on that system. I don't own a PS5 because I'm disappointed in them letting so many good titles go without reverse compatibility. Microsoft does make old titles reverse compatible as far back as the original Xbox with the newer Xbox systems which attracted me to them. I'm having withdraws for some LBP and would open my bank account to get it, that's saying I'm not too big on buying the season passes etc. Buying skins, map packs etc at the prices they had on LBP was more acceptable, and they could make hundreds of dollars off each player over time with that formula. LBP has a special place in my heart and it is dearly missed. Sony needs to get their act together. I'm glad to see you made this video as someone needs to say these things for all of us gamers. Thank you brother!

Good to see the support for LBP. I wouldn’t take the studio who makes it too seriously in the long run, as you said sumo could pull it off. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sumo Digital had employed most of MM’s staff. There is almost no one left in Infinity Ward that made the best CoD Games, their all in Respawn studios now (Apex Legends) Same goes for Studio Liverpool (psygnosis) it’s the same studio as the old WipeOut racing games, but there’s no one of the old developers in there anymore. Their all indie developers now :/

I'm a little unsure about the possibility of Mm going back to making an LBP game. There seems to be happening a big change in-studio, and with the founders of Mm Kareem and Mark leaving the company and the change in branding of the website, im even a little worried their next game wont have anything to do with creating. With that said, I think Tarsier Studios would be a good choice to develop a new LBP game, since they already worked on LBP PS-Vita and Tearaway unfolded. Or maybe im just being a little pessimistic about Media Molecule, when they said they were stoping development on Dreams to make a new game, they didn't expecify it was a new IP, so that's that. I just think this generation needs their own LBP, they need a game to stimulate their creativity like LBP did with ours. Nice video, btw
