How To SAVE MONEY While Living In A Van In The Current Economy

Get a sack of rice and dried kidney beans. Both are really cheap! Soak a handful of beans per person overnight. Cook for about 10mins and then drain. Add to the beans half a mug of rice and 1.5 mugs of water per person and any vege you fancy. Cook until all the water is absorbed. Add a can of chopped tomatoes - I get the flavoured ones. Ridiculous amount of food for not very much.

A super breakfast is tamago kake gohan - egg over rice. Half a mug of rice, 1.5 mugs of water, and N tablespoons of soy sauce (to taste but watch the salt content!) per person. Cook until water absorbed. Put in breakie bowl, make a wee hollow and crack in an egg. Mix with a fork. I add spinach or towards the end of a boondocking session dried garden peas when cooking the rice.

Yeah i hear you but after 5 years in a van i found 3 hours in a coffee shop using free wifi and having a break from the inside of the van made it a no brainer as a worthwhile expense. $5 is great value especially on bad weather days. Most of your other tips are true for me though !

Thats totally fair! Definitely depends on your type, I personally can never get work done in a coffee shop 😆 Just depends on how you work i guess :D Im more so talking about grabbing a coffee every AM in drivethru bcuz its easier than making on your own :D

I do the credit card thing. I have a hotel card. This gives me points to get a hotel as a treat every so often. I also go to outlet groceries. I also like kroger groceries ( great fruit and veggies) they have a gas award program for a few cents off per gallon of gas. Another one if u use a cooler in ur van - I buy frozen everything if I can. Frozen veggies, fruits, and meats. It acts as ur ice and saves u a few bucks.
