Living out of a storage locker for 2 months, in style!

I had just came back from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and found myself homeless. I had given up my apartment to go hike and now that I was back I wanted to turn my car into a livable space. I eventually did that (You can see it here ( • Camperizing a Honda Ci... ) but found I still needed access to lots of stuff from my storage unit which was 6x4x10 and everything was just jammed in there. I figured there had to be a better way. I scoped out a 10x10x6 unit and moved all my stuff inside. Still super small, I managed to build shelves and organize it in a way where everything is accessible. But why stop there! I decided to build shelves and a water system and setup my actual apartment so I could live there. I was moving in! I ended up living in the unit for around 2 months. I only spent around $100 making the space as efficient as I did, mostly because I already owned so much hardware. The cost of rent on my unit was $205 a month (which included insurance). A bargain, considering an apartment in the area was $1000+ a month. I made this video showcasing my work/unit.

My uncle lived in a storage unit in the early 2000's for around 2 years with a similar set up. A bed, TV, toaster oven and mini fridge. He didn't disturb anyone and even the owners never questioned it, he's always lived alone and I think he was happier in a tiny storage unit than he is owning a home now.

This video reminded me of feeling appreciative of what I have and I'm basically in the same spot you are. Renting an apartment, living with just my dog, I converted the spare room into my gaming/mini-theater room. Saves on heat in the winter too because I'm usually in that room with all the electronics running, so I can keep the heat down lol. Honestly I don't know if it's my age (39) or covid but I really lost interest in frivolous things like going out all the time. I still love my vacations, but I'm quite happy at home in my little apartment with my dog lol

Not to mention cooking food in his unit. That's worse than surround sound speakers because the smell isn't something you can quickly rid your area of unlike noise for speakers. And when there is supposed to be literally no source of food coming from this facility, that's probably more suspicion-arousing than anything else. Edit: seems like staff knew he was there and probably just turned a blind eye. Smell is still a good thing to take into consideration when hiding out anywhere though because it's one of the hardest things to control
