Brother, you're a savings beast! I live in DC, just started getting my financial house in order. I respect what you're doing.

Another note to people watching. All of these habits aren't going to come right away. Like the gym and your muscles they take time to build. Consistently focus on achieving your goals small and large and you will achieve them! 💪

100%! And small improvements are a LOT better than big plans you never actually do... Make improvement the goal!

Good for you!! I can't find many channels on KZbin that are about showing their fire journey.
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
That's exactly what I thought! Plus, it seemed like most people became financially free before they talk about. I always wanted to see the day to day as they got there, so I decided I'd have to make it myself!

Saving over $7,000 per month and retiring by 30 is impressive! What do you plan on doing when you get away from corporate America? Passion projects? Travel?
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
You know, I've been thinking about this a lot lately! Honestly, it might depend on where this KZbin channel is at. Maybe really focus on this and my newsletter. I'm also really interested in start up accelerators. I think that could be interesting, and less stressful without the need for steady income. No matter what I'd like to live abroad. I'm not big on travel, but I'd like to live for a while outside the US. I'll keep yall updated!

I did not know that only 1% of people retired before the age of 50!

Crazy, right! I didn't either, I thought it would be at least 5% or so

what exactly do you mean by retiring? how do you define it? what criterias should be true for you to finaly someday to be able to call it a success, what do they depend on?
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
Yeah great question. I define financial freedom as the ability to live the rest of your life at your current standard of living without running out of money. The rule of thumb, based on historical stock and bond returns, is that you should have 25x your annual expenses in retirement savings (invested mostly in stocks). That's not the only option of course, but it's the most well studied. For longer retirements, saving a little more is safer. Does that answer your question?
@juliab8755Ай бұрын
Financial freedom gives you choice. Im in my 50s and can choose if and when I work. I'm so grateful to be in this position

According to google the median household income is 80K. After tax would be lower
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data released about a month ago. $101,805 is the average across all consumer units, $141,798 for married couples, and $65,847 for single+other ($87,869, $120,876, and $57,694 after tax, respectively)

Choose your hard, now or later. I choose now by sacrificing whilst everyone around me chooses hard later and then the whine about cost of living whilst spending $2500 on take away coffee…go figure
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
100%! Some people need to recognize that they're choosing to spend all their money. They don't have to. Even "frugal" people like me have so many luxuries compared to a few decades ago.
@tomiasthexder7673Ай бұрын
@ mate, the poor in western countries are still in the top 1% of luxuries that has ever existed in humanity: people are spoiled now, they just don’t realise it.

THIS WILL NOT BE NOR HAS BEEN FOR MORE THAN A SELECT FEW!!!! IN MY OPINION dude what he is saying is totally crazy... all we have to do is look at median single earner incomes vs. median housing prices and then average them out. He made a ton of money while not having a ton of expenses.... which allowed him to "save more money"
@RunningonFIREАй бұрын
Hey there! I'm not quite sure I follow your point. Retiring by 30 definitely requires a good income and low expenses. But people don't have to be like me. I just made this video to help people save more money, which everyone can do. But yes, savings are the difference between income and expenses. High income and low expenses means I "save more money" :) Hope that helps 👍
@donaldlyons17Ай бұрын
@@RunningonFIRE Well but the problem is everyone on KZbin that does well has a similar combination of factors so no my point was many don't have the right combo to even think about what worked in your case. No shade but really? Dude I have a bro who makes 10X as much as me and I lived with people who made about 2.5X less than me. I see I can't buy what he buys (his savings each month is equal to at least 1/2 my monthly cheque) while my buying power after all expenses was 2/3 or about $400 per month compared to the others peoples total monthly buying power. My point is the math and buying power matter especially over time!!!

@@donaldlyons17yes but his point of view will still help even on a low income.Most of us are not on 10k plus a month like him.But his points are sound and can be applied by anyone.
@donaldlyons17Ай бұрын
@@dazza9859 But that is part of the problem. If most of us are not at 10K which if consistent is about 120K his points are mute. His numbers get him wins not his other stuff. I lived with other making less than 1/2 as much and they never had anything..... so no numbers alone matter most!!!
