I remember a few years ago I was sent a reminder by my usual insurance company so I just paid it because I had been happy with them the previous couple of years. A few days later I got an email from one of these comparison sites advertising the same insurance from the same company £40 less than I had paid. I was straight on the phone and got a £40 refund. It does not pay to be loyal to one company they fleece existing customers & give big discounts to attract new customers.

It’s because EV’s cost more to repair and take longer to repair and are more likely to be written off if involved in an accident, particularly if the battery or it’s housing is damaged. They require being stored safely away from other vehicles following a collision due to risk of fire, they are also spontaneously combusting and can take up to 30hrs to extinguish. So the insurance are spreading that cost to none EV owners. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

In the UK less than 3% of cars are EV’s, so they won’t make any difference. Also, there are more petrol and diesel car fires (% per 100k cars) than EV’s !

The main reason is Insurers are subsidizing EV car insurance, by putting some of the cost on petrol/diesel cars. EV is so expensive to insure is because any damage near or to the battery writes the vehicle off. Ford fiesta is a great car. Again prioritizing expensive EVs most of us cannot afford. I wonder why the German economy is on the down slope ?

The Reality is that electric vehicles cost 25% to repair, and also are more dangerous if involved in a crash. Insurers are spreading this cost over ALL vehicles they insure (under pressure from the government) We are all paying for EV insanity

My idea is to pay for insurance and if you don't make a claim, you 're given back 50% of the initial fee. The insurers will make money, people will get rewarded for not claiming and will be encouraged to be more careful, to get the 50% refund.

What she didnt say is that insurance prices have been artificially low because theyvwere being subsidised by loyal policy holders. The FCA found this during a review of the sector in light of new regulations for consumers (Consumer duty). Simply, insurance companies were advertising far cheaper premiums for new customers, which were being subsidised by everyone else's premiums.I work in asset finance and I looked over these regulatory changes in my team. During the training they used the insurance sector as an example... and not a good one. Also mobile phone companies.

Anyone involved in a claim in last year or so will tell you where the biggest costs are, nothing to do with energy costs, paint costs, labour blah blah gibberish, it the courtesy cars, some are rented out at £450 a day for up to a month while your car sits in a parking lot "awaiting repair", it dwarfs the costs of the repair in some cases.

Do what i did 6 yrs ago... drive to a place like poland. Deregister your car from the dvla , register it in poland and put it thru a polish mot. With new polish number plates and log book , then insure it in poland. Did that during brexit and now pay a couple hundred quid a yr. Nice thing about polish insurance is that its the car thats covered ...not the driver Meaning anyone is insured to drive the car assuming they got a licence. Next nice thing is that the insuramce is valid for use outside of poland...say the uk.... for 365 days a year ..meaning... drive your car back to uk , and anyone can use and drive it ...none of this silly named driver stuff And all for a couple hundred quid

Got a quote of 9K on a 2 year old Tesla model 3 driven for 35 years no points or claims. Guess what Won't be going electric and sticking to my Suberb exec greenline. It costs the DVLA money to send me a reminder for tax as a pay zero. Smiles all around plus I get 70mpg on a run and can drive it in ultra emission zones. Not the case for my other car which is a TreVoR but still gives me smiles all the time I drive it 😄😄😄. Just avoid the ultra emission zones i.e Wales !!!.

The increased costs should be laid on those drivers who claim all the time and not spread throughout all other motorists. Also the cost of repairing EVs has apparently rocketed - after motorists have been ‘conned’ into buying them. Also EVs are going to be increasingly taxed - another ‘con’. It makes no sense economic sense to own a car in UK, petrol or electric. First you pay £150-200 a month on insurance and taxes and huge parking charges everywhere. Learn from India…A new car worth £20,000 in India will attract £300 a YEAR for the best car insurance in India. Car insurers are a cartel and they have piled up huge profits and that’s why major companies are not public or listed. Government is silent because they are getting taxes. I am happy I do not own a car :) Stop the car insurance cartel. Also UK lacks cheap auto labour and parts supply so govt needs to work there and have more private companies offering insurance.

Can Amanda Stretton please explain the legitimacy of paying fully comprehensive insurance on an "elderly" car (10 or15 years old) that is in excellent condition purchased at say a 'reasonable' value of £1,000, but, involved in a'non fault" accident the Insurance company will NOT repair the vehicle, as they claim it has a market value of only £100 and with excess payment of £100 AND will only PAY OUT 60% of the "Market value" - meaning, 60% of £100 (their estimate even though a similar vehichle can still fetch £1,000) - so £40 MINUS £100 excess means NO PAYPUT!!!! USURY AT ITS WORST!!! The arguement from the Insurance company is that "parts" for elderly vehichles are hard to come by and are expensive! Why not then say Insure for a set amount of expenses eg. £1,000 or more IRRESPECTIVE OF AGE!!??? . Two years standard premiums and the Companies have their money back and more!!!!

If it reduces the excessive number of drivers on our roads, then I fully support it. 60% of drivers out there are complete morons and should not be allowed to drive. Most of them can't even afford to buy a car in the first place...hence PCP. Getting into serious debt to buy a car you can't afford to run is going to become the demand destroyer.
