How to Save USB Flash Drive left in Washing Machine

I accidentally left my 32gb USB flash drive in the washing machine. But luckily was able to save it by covering it in rice!

Yup totally worked... after a complete wash I popped my USB in a small bag full of rice and put it into my airing cupboard for only about 3 hours.... sorted! works perfectly.. mental note: check pockets next time!!!

I have a low-tray agitator I think they're called, bottom of the washer. So my drive took some major abuse, esp on a heavy cycle. Dreaded seeing it down there when I was taking my clothes out. I left it alone for 3 weeks in a small room after exposing it to a small fan for 12 hours. It wasn't a vital drive, I was bracing myself for the loss; plugged it in and it worked fine. The key is let it dry out. If I had little time and needed the data asap, I'd put it a few feet from a small fan for as long as possible, at least 12 hours, preferably 24 to 72. I had a keyboard synthesizer go through rain 25 years ago...waited a week for it to dry out...and it too started right up. No need for rice in my opinion, just expose it to air flow (not heat) for as long as possible before trying it again. I would never try it before 12 hours, ya gotta get rid of the moisture or it might never work again once you plug it in.

one more viewer attests to this method.Have this particular model from sandisk. , sandisk cruzer blade :P. Washed accidentally in the washing machine. Tried to rinse it with hand jerks but no benefits. Kept in a bowl of rice and after 6 hours ... voila!! it started working with no loss of data.

I accidentally washed mine too. Its a USB-C to usb a. Its currently under the rice now. Tomorrow i will try to use it. Hopefully it will work.

if u remove the plastic cover you will have more chance to recover it. i just did with mine.. I put it in rice now, hope i recover the usb :D

Been through the wash cycle, i just put the drive on the dashboard of my car for a couple of hours, no problem. It was on a cord and that was dry so i gave it a shot.
