Good morning, I agree with you absolutely, our own seeds are adapted and it makes us independent. I harvested onion seeds last year and froze them after drying them. This way they last even longer. By the way, I learned this from DIYseeds - seeds are public domain - on the Internet. All the best! Ursula

I also collect from wild plants. Wild cress and mustard are really good to use.. 🙂

Last year I purchased a certain variety of squash but what I got was a mixture of hybrid seeds. I saved seeds and replanted them. I now have three types I'm selecting out from the original pack. Might take a few plantings before I have developed heirloom quality.

Just a suggestion. Some of my family puts their dried seeds in a sealed sandwich bag. And they write the date of bagging and the name of the plant on it with a marks-a-lot.

Maybe in some of the very first post my dad may have spoken in it. He would rotate crops and livestock, but I don’t think that I have done one yet. I’ll put it on the to do list.

When I went to save some squash seeds last year, some of the seeds were nicely plump while others were rather flat. Does that affect germination or plant vigor?

Luck of the draw. I always plant several seeds in each cup so germination is not a problem but if the seed is under developments or drought stressed it is less likely to germinate
