yeah you can repair water damage, when my mum had to have a hospital bed in the house all her furniture got shoved into an old leaky shed for a decade, i rescued the welsh dresser and refinished it. the worst of it i had to sand about 5mm off of the surface to get rid of the bleached and water stained wood, a couple of parts i had to fill and regrain but it came back very well panel beater and sprayer by trade so i'm used to restoring old cars too which was obviously a big help

@messylaura it depends on how ild it is. In a lot of American furniture, the outside is laminated wood (plywood). Only about 1mm of wood is the expensive wood with the finish on it. Underneath is pine or something else not worth salvaging. I won't both with anything that's been wet for more than a few minutes because all the adhesives can come out, and the whole surface begins to peel off. Someone skilled in laminated wood veneer can do it but not me. Modern furniture is laminated in plastic. When that gets wet the joints are about as strong as a wet paper bag. This particular dresser would have been an easy fix. If I couldn't weld the original handle and reshape the weld I would just have to search for compatible handles.

Imagine turning a really expensive antique into something that looks like it’s from ikea or Amazon. An original antique nightstand like that would’ve probably gone for $450 at least but you made it worth $2 by cutting it up and painting over the patina. Will probably see it on Facebook marketplace in a few weeks/months when the wireless charger fries itself and dies. Just saying normal people just put their wireless charger on top of the nightstand and not in the wood top.

LOL! That is a cheap pine nightstand popular in the 80s. Everyone I know grew up with this stuff, it's found in every thrift shop or out by the curb on trash day. He made it into a treasure she will never forget...worth a million to her!

You realize these are mass production model furniture.... I own this exact cabinet. They just look nice from the outside. They would break from a stiff wind. A real oak cabinet weighs like 80+ lbs and that's why you don't see them anymore.

1/ Ruins a well finished piece of furniture with white paint. Doesn't sand between coats, making the surface rough and ruining the glossy feeling of the original french finish; 2/ Sands the thing indoors, in the bedroom, blasting wood dust all over the room; 3/ Paints it indoors, at the same place it was sanded, basically leaving wood dust into the fresh paint, creating an even rougher texture; 4/Adds horrendous plexiglass; 5/Ruins a lamp by adding a corkscrew under it, making it impossible to relocate it in the future; 6/ Ruins an induction charger by glueing it. Note that you can't even check your phone if you're in bed, as it's permanently positionned parallel to you; 7/ Stuffs the furniture with sweets, because of course bed is ideal to eat stuff;
