As a British person, I would prefer it if the commentators just pronounced the names accurately, as we learn how to pronounce the players' names by how we hear them referred to in the media as well as IRL. So, continuing to mispronounce the names just compounds the issue.

Also, in Portuguese the letter O is flat, so it is bru-nu, not bru-no. The O is pronounced like the O in the English word do, or like the double O in room. Years ago I watched a wc/euros game on BBC, and the English commentator called Figo fi-gu, which is correct. But I remember Gary lineker mocking him for it during half time analysis.

@@michaelcampbell1560 ok think about someone with a Cockney accent saying the word bow. They could pronounce in like bow and arrow. Or they could pronounce it take a bow (bend type of bow). Although the person uses the same accent they pronounce the word differently giving it a different meaning.

"Coutinho" is also correctly pronounced "coo-cheen-yo". Found that out at the 2014 WC. Also the "Van" in Dutch and Belgian last names is pronounced "Fun"

I always thought Fabian Bartez can’t be pronounced that way. Surely it’s Bar-tay or something. I’ve never heard a French word with a hard “zed” sound at the end.
