How to say 'I love you' in Luxembourgish

Luxembourgish teacher and author, Jackie Messerich, discusses the ways to say 'I love you' in Luxembourgish. Also, some young Luxembourgers who work for the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, offer input on which phrase is more used: 'Ech hunn dech gär' or 'Ech si frou mat dir.'

So the Luxembourgish «Ech hunn dech gär» has the same structure as the Dutch phrase «Ik hou je graag». So it should be a regional feature.

That's not entirely correct. In Dutch you could say " Ik hou van je " or " Ik zie je graag "

In austrian it is "I hon di gern" or "I mog di". The noun "love" does exist, but is considered very old-fashioned "d'liab". The verb doesn't exist: "I liab di" would sound very strange to austrian ears.

I'm not a native speaker of Dutch but I understand that it translates somehow to "I hold of you" which then doesn't coincide with Luxemburgish either because "hunn" is the verb "to have" and not "to hold". The German "ich hab dich gern/lieb" is somehow nearer to the Dutch meaning which turns more into possessing someone.
