Tro/tror- you’re not certain, you believe in something or have a theory, guessing an outcome of something. I finished the Swedish tree on Duolingo a year ago, but even though it really helped me understand basic grammar it's far from complete. I watch Swedish tv and film all the time to expand vocabulary but i need help with pronunciation and Swedish set expressions and colloquialisms. I love how you explain everything. Tack så mycket!

Very interesting. The verb "tro" has a cognate in English which is "trow", but it isn't really used in modern times.. It means to believe/think.

But when you want to say that we use 'tro' when we are not sure, 'guess' will be the best translation for that. Maybe there is something wrong with Swedish language! Anyway, God bless you 🙏🏻✝️❤💐

This has been one of the hardest things to keep straight (most of us don't think about how we are thinking haha). But i THINK I actually have it now. Tror was confusing me because it felt like there were different meanings. But when you mentioned using it when you're not 100% sure, that made it make sense. Whether it's not knowing if the film is any good (because you haven't seen it) or you believe in god (but can't be sure or prove it), it has that same sort of connotation. Forming an opinion based on the facts or data that you have and making that connection... whereas tycker is actually more of a feeling, based more on actual experience. t ex: I like you... why? I just do (based on how I feel when thinking of you). Anyway, not sure I described it well, but thank you for making it finally click in my brain!!

I would say that is totally doable. But it depends a bit on the industry 🤔. And maybe the employer. There are burguer places like Barrels that work in English. But those a bit rare I think. In tech, most people work in Swedish I would say.

Happy to hear that! Tycka is the "infinitive version" (ends with -a). Att tycka = To think. Tycker is the "present version" (ends with -r). Jag tycker = I think. Tyckte would be the "past version". Jag tyckte = I thought. Hope that helps!

Thanks for another great video. When you say "Jag tycker om Svenska", you said it means I like Swedish, but could it also mean "I like Swedish women", or is there no ambiguity here? If it can mean 2 things, how do you know the difference?

Hej! Tack så mycket. Good question. "Svenska" is our word for "Swedish" and in this example it only mean the language. If you want to say that you like Swedish women then you need to say "Jag tycker om svenskor" or "Jag tycker om svenska kvinnor".

Good question. No, it needs to be tro because it is an assumption. You don't know 100 % sure. When we use tycka (opinion) we normally see adjectives such as good, bad etc.
