How else can we say that something "looks good" in Spanish? (There are more options than what I found on Netflix)

The problems with translation... English: You look great! Español: ¡Luces genial! That's the correct translation... So if you want translate: "You look good", like: "Te ves bien", I think it's ok too, but "estás bien", it's incorrect, because "estás" mean "To be", in Spanish "Ser/Estar". Other: "You look beatiful". "Luces hermosa/o". (Spanish). "Look at you!". In Spanish: "¡Mírate!". The problem with this sentece it's not really used in spanish world. (Or well not like in english).

And when she say: "So... Good" that mean: "Muy bueno/a"; or "Demasiado bueno/a". (I dont remember what she say before of that).

We know you are versatile in several languages but some of us are still in the mechanical (methods) way of learning SP. Most of us are still on the tarmac still "taxing" and eager to fly without the distraction of other languages. From my perspective, your BEST VIDEO was about "FILLER WORDS" 15 words in 15 minutes. Hi Andrew, actually you could translate saying almost the same. This looks so good = Esto se ve muy bien. You look very manly = Te ves muy masculino, which means the same. You look great = Te ves bien (estupendo). You look homeless = Te ves indigente. You look beautiful = Te ves hermosa (preciosa). All of them could be translated meaning the very same. I don’t know why the translators tweak them.

This was a really good video, but there was a related question that I'm not sure you answered. In English, we use a lot of sensory equivalents to "looks good," such as "sounds good," "smells good," and "feels good." Are all of these idiomatic, or is everything but "looks good" directly translatable? If they are idiomatic, how do you say "sounds good" in Spanish?

I am in no way an expert, but Reversocontexto (which is almost all from subtitles) gives about 40 translations of "te veo bien" as "you look good", or something close to it. On the other hand, when translating "te ves bien" it gives over 700 translations of the same. Enter "to look good" in SpanishDict and you get "verse bien". Can you clarify Andrew?
@realfastspanish3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as I mentioned in the video, there are lots of ways to translate this into Spanish and your examples are more options as well. The key point is that we don't use "mirar" (to look) and instead we need different verbs like "ver", "verse", "parecer" and "estar". You can also try putting "estás preciosa" into SpanishDict and Reverso to see the variety.
@utubeneer3 жыл бұрын

Q:"Three meals walk into a bar. One looks left and right. One looks up and down. How does the third meal look?" A: "It looks great." How would you translate "It looks great" into Spanish to make it humorous? Somehow "Tiene muy buena pinta" doesn't seem to capture the play on double entendre.

You can’t because in English you are saying it in double meaning. In this example you can’t do it in Spanish. It wouldn’t have sense.
