Little hint: You can merge Graffiti Walls the same way! because you most times can make photos only from parts. so: Photo-Merge is your friend.

@@gidd try take picture on the same point, but you will have perpective, so deal with the right distances...or take pics on a parallele line to the wall if its a long wall for ex... then photomerge is your friend!

Where you had perfectly planar images of the original, you may have wanted to try doing the merge with the "Reposition" button on - it only does alignments and doesn't try skewing etc. Use the Perspective if you have photo images taken side-by-side in a row, or if you do a grid the Spherical works well...

This works really well until you face a big Canvas/Wall that won't fit on the scanner. I have a solution though, take a lot of close-up pictures with your phone. Make sure the light situation is relatively good. The benefit to this is you can literally go really close to the artwork with your photos and get the canvas texture in there if you want that or just have a super high resolution scan of your artwork in the end. Quick Note: some color correction might be needed but if you take good enough pictures it won't take longer than 5 min. I usually don't need to do it at all Photoshop is handling that on it's own usually

If your canvas was twice or three times as big you wouldn't be able to properly scan the center, only along the edges.

You can use a camera (cell, DSLR, or point and shoot. Works best with even lighting and manual control over the exposure.
