How to SCARIFY / DETHATCH your LAWN & How to Do it Right!! | Sun Joe Dethatcher / Scarifier AJ805e

Every year I give my lawn a good clearing out of the dead debris in the lawn. This year I chose to use the scarifying cylinder, and WOW did it perform!! I could not believe it when I saw the amount that it pulled up. With the steps that I use, you can see the same results as well.

Great video thanks. I get I’ve been nervous to use the scarifier blade so far. Just curious why the surficant is selling with the sunjoe.

You shouldn't have any issues with the scarifier blade. It is more aggressive than the tines. When I was posting the video, the only available units on Amazon came with the surfactant as a bonus item. I use the surfactant with herbicides and any liquid product that I want to "stick(er)" to the leaf blade of the item that is being applied to. Thank you for the comment. How do you know what height to scarify at??

Troy, that is going to be at the user's discretion. I highly recommend, no matter what your height of cut is on your lawn that the grass be cut quite short, prior to the machine being applied. The reason is , that the longer the grass, the harder the machine has to work. So then you can decide by a little trial (and maybe some error) is the depth that I have the machine set pulling out enough debris? You can tell from the video that I apply it every year and I still get a substantial amount, But mine is also set to the lowest the machine can go. So with that said I would start with the first setting that is pulling up debris, and then decide where to go from there. I would also HIGHLY recommend that you apply this in the spring or fall when the daytime temps are in the 70's or so. 80 F or higher could put the lawn into severe stress as it tries to recover. I would also irrigate the turf 2-3 days prior to mowing and applying the machine, and also having the plan to apply a slow release fertilizer and a good watering after all the dead debris is cleared off. This will help the turf to push new growth and help it recover much faster. I hope this helps, Thank you for the comment. I hope to hear from you in the future.
