I tried the same thing at one point in my business . I do routes now instead of days . Route 1 - 10 . And because of in-climate weather they will be on what ever day they land on . No specific days .

im solo,so i personally group my customers in a three block radius.ive been very blessed to have 4 houses in a row in one street.two of my customers live side by side and there grass connects,i do a straight cut,its like cutting one house lol

I got six yards on one block I love doing those because I don't have to load and unload and drive to each yard so when I do those it makes my day so easy

I started out doing biweekly for almost all of my customers. That's just not often enough during the peak growing season! Now I really push for weekly or ay least during the months of June, July, August the time when Bermuda grass is growing the fastsest. It's worked pretty well. I'd say I have about 50/50 weekly vs biweekly now.

I use Google calendar for my scheduling. Easy to use and free. Plus I always have it on my cell phone.

+Jeffery Parthemore I haven't thought of using Google Calendar but that is a good idea.

Thanks Jason, I am just starting out and find your advice really clear and useful.

Totally agree that a robust efficient schedule is key. We just use an Excel spreadsheet and only do 2 weekly cuts (in the UK that's pretty standard). Also have the schedule loaded on the android phone which mirrors the excel schedule .

I use the same system, it’s gets boring but it’s efficient, most definitely Business is about making money not fun. However I only have a route from mon-thurs fri and sat I use for extras like tree trimming or sprinklers or new lawns etc

I can't find this addressed. I've got the customers. How do I start them and charge them in the first month. Some won't be ready too short and others too tall at the first and even the second cut. Some customers will say where have you been??? and others why are you here??? and nether wants to pay you for your time. From the first lawn to the last lawn in the schedule yards can get really tall before the first cut of the season before you get the schedule completed once. How do you deal with that????

Hey Jason, I can't thank you enough for the great content that you put out. You are the man! I have a quick question though. Here in Northern Indiana, we hit pretty dry spells mid season. How would you handle this with weekly customers where the grass doesn't grow? I know some guys that cut no matter what, and I know some wait for it to start up again. I usually wait for it to start up, but then it's really easy to get off schedule. So WWJD (What would Jason do?) haha

thanks for the kind words. my theory is usually to cut unless the customer asks me not to. If someone asks me to skip during a dry spell, I don't think it is a big deal. If they ask me to skip often, then I think it needs to be addressed with the customer.

Very good video! I feel like I needed that video. At times I go just wherever and the time in between customers adds up. Especially when you have a helper. The other area I need some work on is collecting money. In your opinion is it better to do billing? Most (95%) pay me after the job or leave the payment somewhere on site. But I end up talking to customers a lot. Not that I don't like talking but it can really get time consuming.

+Jaybones74 I typically bill most of my customers but I don't think collecting the money on the spot is a bad idea either. If collections become a hassle for my company then I may strongly consider taking a credit card on file for many customers. Especially the ones who become difficult to collect from
