I feel the struggles of being a single digit handicap every time I golf. I played 36 holes in one day last week as a 3.7 handicap. I shot 89, 77. It's unreal how fickle of a game golf is. I played this morning and shot an 85 with 7 straight pars on the back 9. If anyone had watched me play the front 9, they would have guessed I was a 20 hcp. Great video as always, Adam!

Even the difference in front 9 and back 9 can be huge for me. A couple times last year I struggled on the front shooting in the high 40s, but then shooting a 36 or 37 on the back. One day I'll shoot a 94 and another I'll shoot an 82. It's a crazy game, but I'm working on consistency and good decision making. Having time to practice is certainly helpful, but sadly these days I'm lucky to be able to play once every week or 2 because life is busy. That's why I mostly focus on having a good time. Maybe next year I'll be able to grind a bit more haha
@dgreen83882 ай бұрын
@@_dboy_ I totally get it! I played a front 9 yesterday +2 with 8 pars in a row (that continued into the back 9) then proceeded to make 5 bogeys in a row until the last 2 holes to shoot a 79.. Golf is a fickle mistress but I'll never give it up lol

Honestly...this is GREAT golf. I think what most of us mean when we say "I suck at golf" is that we have an unreliable, inconsistent long game. But to be able to keep a level head, make good decisions and score despite challenges with the long game is totally great golf.

I got on the Bogey Train on Monday, but didn't panic ... just kept trying to keep double bogeys off my card. The Golf Gods rewarded me with a chip in birdie, and some great wedge shots coming down the stretch. It turned a certain 84 into an 80. Double bogeys are score killers, and if you can keep them off the card, you'll always have a chance at breaking 80 ...

@@NotAScratchGolfer Nice! London has really changed the last while, would be like a whole new city in a way. And I hope so too! I read once that London and area had more golf courses per capita than any other part of Canada. I'm guessing that has changed since then as there haven't been many new courses the past 20 years (and some going bye), and the population has almost doubled in the area in that time. But its got an incredible muni system and 3 courses in the top 60 in Canada within a 20 minute drive, and a bunch of hidden gems too.

Hey Adam. Could you explain what the data in the intro means? Yardage i get, but "Rating" and "Slope"?
@NotAScratchGolfer3 ай бұрын
Courses are 'rated' so that your raw score can be 'adjusted' for handicap purposes. The "rating" is essentially the expected score for a scratch (0.0 index) golfer. The slope is a bit more complicated, and it basically tells you how much more difficult the course is for a bogey golfer vs. a scratch golfer. Your raw score is put into a formula that accounts for the slope/rating in order to produce a "differential," which is essentially what your "handicap" was that particular day. This round, for instance, went into the computer as an 8.5 differential. If I played this course and shot this score every day, my handicap index would be 8.5 But your handicap is actually calculated by averaging out only the top 8 of your last 20 differentials.
