I'll never understand the logic of people who swap 2JZ's in to 3 and 5 series BMW's. Why go to all the effort and cost of swapping in a 3L inline 6 cylinder... to replace a 3L inline 6 cylinder? Yes, the 2JZ is turbo and stronger from the factory, but most are 20 years old now and are getting tired. For around the same money you'll spend on buying a 2JZ and swapping it in, you could rebuild the BMW 6 with forged pistons/rods etc to have a nice fresh motor, slap on a turbo and make just as much power as a boosted 2JZ, but wouldn't have to deal with the custom fabrication and problem solving required for a 2JZ swap.

Makes even less sense when it's a 540i wagon, unless the original drivetrain is completely blown up or something...

matt w yeah a 528 or 525 would make a ton more sense with a steering rack instead of the pitman steering.

Because of the simplicity and proven reliability of the 2JZ outweighs the tedious maintenance that comes with the BMW engines. I have given a lot of thought to turbocharging the V8 but with the amount of money spent into that I could have a well proven 2J setup for the same-ish money.

Speed Academy what about a turbo UZ or LS swap? It seems sad to not make use of the V8 engine bay for a V8, especially when the car is so heavy.

Are there kits out for BMW 2jz swaps? Just seems like a massive headache swapping in a drivetrain from a different manufacturer. M54B30 engines are bullet proof, seen and driven plenty with well over 200k still going strong; I'd love to see one with the compression lowered, some head upgrades, and a big turbo. Time-sert the block and it would be a solid engine I bet. And then leave the car completely stock looking.

the hood trying to fly up gave me flashbacks, i bought a wrecked 944 and no one told me the sunroof was unbolted til a random truck flies up next to us on the highway honking and here it came off , flew over 2 cars and a semi dodged it. still have it today, great oil catch

I remember back in the 80s most junk yards had two prices $100 if you drove it in, $75 if they had to pick it up. However, if you drove it in, many of them would try to cheat you by saying that even though it drove in that there was something major wrong with the motor and they were only going to be able to give you $50 and you could take it or drive it back home. Ultimately, you were better off having them come and get where you had the advantage and could pull the same shit on them or at least get your $75.

Can someone answer a question for me? I recently took my car to a maintenance place, and they weren't able to fix it, they said it needed to be junked. If it is still at the place, how do I scrap it for money and ensure that I get the money? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but this was my first car and I'm new at this.

Damn, that rust is really bad. I'm in a very wet/salty climate and cars don't last well here either but that sort of rust is something I only remember seeing on 70s/80s cars when corrosion protection wasn't so good. Would never expect to see something like that on a relatively modern(ish) BMW!

The salt on the roads in Ontario in the winter is insane! If you are buying a used car in western Canada, the first thing you do is make sure it's not from Ontario or Quebec... I've seen 3-year-old cars from Ontario with rust bubbles on the rear quarter panels.

isn't it more work to swap a V8 e39 vs an i6? I've never actually measured the bays but I always thought a rear sump JZ would fill out the i6 gap nicely, and you don't have to deal with a wobbly old steering box.
