Part 2 of my series shows you how I finish construction of the main structure of my scratchbuilt house, using Evergreen styrene sheet. Also, at 22:54 I show you how the chandelier comes out after last week's suggestions from you guys - thank you for the input! I also show you some tricky trompe l'oeil effects to add depth to structures. Next week in Part 3 I will show you how I construct the groundwork.

We mere mortals are grateful to see that even a master such as yourself can still super glue his fingers to everything. (And the outside of your seven is concave - remember caves go in.) Acetone would have dissolved the polystyrene in seconds.

Dave, The Chandelier is actually a shade for a round lamp. We have one at home. To be more prototypical you might wish to consider hanging an low voltage LED seed bulb inside to Macromay. Run the elictric line up the hanging cable. Then connect a battery as a power source. Low voltage, low temp., & filter angles of light against the surrounding walls and throught the windows. Jim

Hi Jim, I did consider that - I did a similar thing on my last build, there's a video on my channel showing it. But I decided not to on this one, purely because I was worried it might be a bit toy-like, if you get my meaning?

For that kind of thread wrapping, I'd like to think that I'd make a spool spindle so the thread spool wouldn't wander across the table. This is easier to say sitting here watching you than if I were to be doing it myself. A piece of scrap lumber with a finishing nail should be adequate.

Nice one, Dave. Really enjoyed the whole build so far....including the bloopers! So good to see that you make minor mistakes on camera and don't delete them....it's comforting to us who make similar boo-boos that all is not always so perfect on KZbin vids.....will look forward to Part 3....thank you.

It's really coming together nicely. Whenever I do clear parts, i learn't the hard way that i should always wear latex gloves to prevent fingerprint marks. They always end up on the inside of windows i subsequently can't get back at to clean!

Excellent work Dave. Just a quick suggestion for future, I found the quickest way to dissolve styrene is to dip it in petrol. I’m sure you have plenty of that in you shed.

Hey, Dave. Coming along great. This is a real look into " your" mind set when people scratch build. Thought process's and patterns that bring an idea together. I employ the same idea's and principles in my Diorama work. But not as architectural as your's that my friend is taking it up a notch. And using the vehicle for scale is imperative as proportion can be distorted as in forced perspective. Man I'm thoroughly enjoying this build. Keep up the great work. Cheer's John

Thanks John! The vehicle is part of the commission, the client owns a Mustang that sits in the front driveway, but yes, as you say it's very helpful for scale on a building that otherwise doesn't have a lot of scale cues... Thanks for the feedback mate, Dave

Wonderful videos, Dave! The next time you're dissolving styrene, try liquid styrene, or acetone, or lacquer thinner. Acetone will also getCA glue off. Best wishes!

Looking great so far Dave, good job. Like everyone else, I was delighted to see you getting grief from the superglue - thought that only happened to me.☺ I also have problems cutting smaller pieces of styrene against a metal straight-edge. What would happen if you put a piece of double-sided tape on the ruler? Maybe stick it down a few times to take off some of the tack, before using it on the actual piece - just a thought. I agree with jvanamb about using a dim LED in the lampshade, that might look very smart. Looking forward to part three, when you install running water and working TV sets.☺ All the Best from sunny Scotland, Dougie.

@DavesModelWorkshop 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dougie, heh heh, running water is only a matter of time! ;) Yeah, I regularly stick my fingers together with superglue... Double sided tape would work, I think I might give that a try for cutting fine pieces, thanks for the suggestion. Dave

Dry fit, dry fit, dry fit the balsa but you don't need me to tell you that. It is looking awesome Dave. I'm curious as to how you choose your subject matter for each build mate?

Hi Bilko, thanks mate. This one is a commission, the owner of the house approached me and asked me to build it. It's not quite my scene, it's a bit too modern for my usual subjects, but I'm enjoying the challenge!
