Oh my God it’s working I love you so much right now. My old way of doing growls was very violent and flappy. More of a gutteral type of false chord thing. I’m using this method to sing some Opeth and it’s working amazingly. I’ve been trying so hard to do this forever. I even hit some really dirty pitched stuff like in this video. Instead of doing the HUHP then pushing as hard as I can I’m doing something different from what I always do and trying to make it sound really light and crappy and no strain and it’s working way better! Wowowowow thanks so much. I knew the whole time I was like it just seems like I’m missing one thing and then I would have it but no one could explain it properly like you did. And you made it so easy. If I had caught your video long ago I’d probably be really good by now. Thanks man!!!!!!
@bharkanlol3 жыл бұрын
PERFECT EXPLAINED HOW TO GET THE FALSE CORD SOUND! I'm practising it right now and I start coughing sometimes when I do it and have a hard time finding the rattle. I can do the hold and talk with it, but when I do a note It's like I let go and my vocal folds takes over and I get a raspy sensation that makes me cough.
@SINGANDSCREAM3 жыл бұрын
Does it sound very similar to what i am doing or quite different? Triggering the false folds the first couple times can lead to a coughing sensation, but the vocal folds should feel and sound the exact same afterwards and the coughing sensation should go away after doing it a couple times. If your voice is different after this and the coughing sensation does not go away you are doing something else that is harmful and you need to tackle the distortion differently.
@bharkanlol3 жыл бұрын
@@SINGANDSCREAM I guess I have a hard time holding a note with the compression. When I hold the note it's like I'm letting through more air than I need and I start to cough. The triggering of the false cords kinda sounds like your.. but mor clicky and less "gritty" or "Muddy".

Brilliant!! Your teaching is great, thanks for the video. I got that sound, going from speaking in that constipated voice to singing a note to giving it a bit more volume. That sound came out and it felt completely different from all the other times I tried it. It feels so different to normal singing, like holding a note in constipated voice is harder, but then by trying it its kind of like the false folds active themselves and I didn’t have to ‘do’ as much with my throat as I thought. I think I’d been trying to keep it feeling the same with my normal voice and that’s what held me back. I recorded myself and actually found it kind of disturbing hearing those sounds coming out of my throat hahaha it sounds like a demon! If you upload any more vids in the future, I’ll be watching them!!

He’s not even making any new content for years now but after watching about 2 hours of tutorials this is the first one I can understand and follow. After literally 5 month of practicing I have an obervation to make of his technique. To me it seems like when at around 7:24 he switches to the fry technique he still switches to that falsetto fry he demonstrates at the beggining 0:44 which he says we will not be doing. As I'm pretty persistent with this, I'm going to give this a few tests as I can achieve fry from falsetto. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something about this tutorial, but I thought that we're not going to do that type of fry at all with this technique.

This tutorial was really helpful at understanding the fundamentals. Do you think you could cover Michael Barr from volumes? Most notably his performances at warped tour 2014? It seems like he gets these incredibly powerful screams with little to no effort. Does his method sound healthy to you? I haven't seen any vocal coach cover volumes before.
@SINGANDSCREAM3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is the same method but a bit louder and chestier with the voice underneath. You can hear how his voice does not breakup completely. There is still his ''Yelling'' pitch inside. That's because he goes into the vocal fry from a higher energy coordination, a chestier mix, and not a lighter mix like i use here.

@NRG2 Жыл бұрын
You alllmost had it! However: Chester’s sound actually comes from a different place in the mouth than during this demonstration. The tone was almost there but the reason Chester has a wider frequency distribution with the same tone/note is because he is not constricting so much in the throat. Think of sending the scream into your nasal passage. He moves the place of distortion further forward and up in the mouth.. So it’s really happening in the roof of his mouth NOT in the back of his throat like this demonstration. Think about it as triangulation between your lowest voice and where you’re singing to, then move that 3rd point (distortion) further forward in the mouth.

Do you have a demonstration? I have an issue making the highest notes. My troath goes clean the higher i go, so when i reach e5 it's hard for me to put fry into the note.
@mestayno20 күн бұрын
@@alessandro_inno this happens to me too. Did you figure it out eventually?
@alessandro_inno20 күн бұрын
@@mestayno kind of. I also realized how much his voice is processed in that scream. I got this dude on skype and told me a similar thing to this. The thing is, it takes practice, like he said that he could do it in line 6 months practicing every day. But also i have the isolated vocal track and you can hear the layering and compression woth distortion. So its a mix of tons of things.
@mestayno19 күн бұрын
@@alessandro_inno do you have any tips on how to keep compression on higher notes? I managed to pull off a "different kind" of fry with a lot less tension on a higher note. On lower notes I can compress a lot but then I can't relax into the fry.

Try compressing very lightly while also being quite quiet. Slide around and get to higher pitches this way. Make sure when compressing you don't get all old man sounding dull and dark, but still keep a twangy forward placement you need for your mix.

Thank you so much for this!!! Once you get the practice down that you said to do how do you get to the point where you can add in that vocal fry? How do you know you’re ready, and is it dangerous if done improperly? Maybe I could just search how to do a vocal fry but would that be correct? Then just start doing this and combine the vocal fry once I’ve got this down? Or will it just come naturally as you get louder, like you said your voice will naturally become that way because it wants to as you get louder?
