How much do you allow for compaction when setting the screed height? Obviously less than sharp sand but I’ve seen some comments online saying if you compact before screeding you can set the screed to the correct level for the pavers and then won’t compact further?
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping7 ай бұрын
Id say it will still go down around 5mm ish Ryan in my experience it will definitely go down it won't just stay where it is as you say not in my opinion mate 👍

I’m going to be doing my 30 sq metre driveway this Summer. I’m a builder but never done block paving and this vid was so helpful. I have a few questions If any experts can help. I have paving going up to 3 walls. Is it best to get all the borders made up of block paving in first before infill of blocks ? Some people say they need setting in a dry mix concrete but is that necessary? I’ve had my dropped kerb done to drive over and they have installed the concrete edging to tue tarmac pavement . When starting the infill is it necessary to find the centre of the driveway and set the block paving from that or do you Just start on the top corner near the garage door? I’m thinking of a herringbone design . Also I’m seeing some vids where they also use a waker plate on the freshly levelled sand using the rails but won’t that just make it not perfectly flat again?
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping10 ай бұрын
We add the board last . No need to set in concrete as long as you have a hard edge . No need to start central. We do wack the sand the add the rails and drag off that.👍

Hello. This is the second video of yours I have watched and in the first one you were using mot and sand and in this one you used 6mm chippings, as it rains a lot in the UK these days no matter where you are lol, I need to re do my drive after having employed a cowboy to do the job 6 years ago and now it has sunk where i have been putting my van on it. do I mot and whack it down to 100mm of line then put in 50mm of chippings or is the depth of chippings needed less than the 50mm of sand. thanks for the advise in advance
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping9 ай бұрын
Not entirely sure what you mean but you can add 6mm chippings down tk min 30mm 👍
@clarkspiemuncher9 ай бұрын
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping ok thanks for the reply. I am assuming if using the chippings instead of sand, the depth should be the same as if using sand 50mm

Yes but you can reduce the chippings to 30mm if you wanted 👍

Those screed rails look the bees knees, I finished an 81m2 drive last week, I used 6mm as I saw it on one of your old videos, I was sceptical but it turned out to be a brilliant alternative to dust, so thanks mate, do you advise your clients to seal the blocks?
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping Жыл бұрын
Glad its worked for you mate. No i advise not to seal a drive to be honest as marshalls tell us not to seal there products 👍

We had a drive installed yesterday and they did not do any screeding 🤷🏼♀️ We chose grey bricks but where the sand hadn’t been swept in enough at the end, the bricks look discoloured and there is still loose sand all over the drive. My husband tried sweeping it in last night but he didn’t really get anywhere. We also chose a different design but because the boss guy didn’t like it, he sent us the pattern that he’d be getting his team to do 👎🏻 Bit of a disaster really 😞
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping6 ай бұрын
Oh no that does sound very good for you .Hope all is ok 👍
@corinnevanessa226 ай бұрын
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping Oh it’s got a lot worse 🤦🏼♀️ We now have hundreds of ants burrowing out of different areas of the drive! All the sand in between the bricks is being pushed out! We just don’t know what to do. My husband has ordered some ant repellent to put down, so I suppose we will have to see if that works. Is it normal for this to happen? We have never had ants before.
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping6 ай бұрын
@corinnevanessa22 Yes the ants this time of year can do that unfortunately. Get rid of the ants because they can undermine the paving eventually. Your going to need to replenish the kiln dry sand in the joints periodically until the sand settles in the joints . Good luck 👍

We had to start at the top square off the building. We boarded it but 6 mm chippings you can place light foot on it so yes although i agree with you we had no choice and it didn't move and had no issues with the final finish of the work
@davidvasey19559 ай бұрын
Its compacted, and they used boards to cross over, so not gonna make a lot of impact on the screed. Also they had to start from the top so how ellse are they gonna get across
