hi how thick do you need the screed to be to be strong enough? I am thinking 15mm? I don't want my shower to be much higher above the rest of the house which creates a large trip hazard. thanks

make sure slurry still wet when screed goes on top...put screed in bucket or wheel borrow ready to go before speading slurry

Hi Donna Slurry is basically water and cement. And no it must be wet if its dry the screed wont stick.

Hi Texaz No worries thanks for watching our videos. The ratio for sand and cement screed depend but in general 10 bags of 20 kilograms is used for 1 tone of sand which is equal to 1000 kilograms. So you need to mix one bag of cement for 100 kilograms of sand i hope that make sense to you. And for slurry 8kg cement to 15kg of water, if you want a stronger base you can add 2kg cement extra to make it more muddy.

It`s a nice tutorial! Can you tell please how thin can be such screed layer? What kind of tiles is preferable for the flooring on top of it? Mosaic or large format 600*600mm porcelain? Does it need to be waterproofed under tiles? Thank you

Hi Alex Thanks mate the thicker better if your screed is thinner the 20mm that will be a problem. You can lay any type of tiles but big tiles are preferred in bathroom or shower floor because it will be hard to give a fall to the drain or floor-west. Its better if you waterproof before you lay the screed but if the floor is rough yes you can waterproof on the screed as long as you use the correct methods.

Use sydney sand but dont buy from bunnings it will cost you more buy from sand and soil place

Hey Geo We don’t use laser level you dont need to use. You need spirit levels only different size. Lets say if i am screeding bathroom 2m*3m and the drains are in the center, after screed is mixed and pouted in bathroom, then my start point will be from the primeter of the bathroom and shower. Step one, do your grid line around the primeter of bath & shower . Step 2, start your next gridline from the perimeter which will be high points and falls towards the drainage point lower point. I hope you understand but i will make another and explain all these things. Thanks 🙏

Hi Simon thanks for your comment. Its a good idea if you waterproof the floor first but You dont have to waterproof. If the floor is not level and even, not having enough falls towards the drain under the screed it its not a good idea to waterproof under the screed but if the base is nice and flat got falls towards floorwest or levelled must be waterproof before the screed.
