Wow, this is so good. It actually records 4 simultaneous channels on my system. I'm using an AudioBox USB. So one channel is empty and the other has the mic input. I can set the gain from my hardware panel. It seems that using this method, the last set audio level of your system is used for output, once you switch to the multioutput the level is no longer visible from the main bar which is fine. I can't believe this works. ha.

OMFG YES! It worked. I tried the same things with both Soundflower and Blackhole to no avail. I just got Ableton Live 11 so was like maybe it's that. It wasn't, it seems like it was the IShowU that was the difference for me. Thank you so much for this I nearly rage quit before i found this video haha!

Hi Ben. I have a question and really need your help. Im doing online classes and as a part of my work, I need to record most of my classes. I did watch your video and tried it myself. It worked but the problem is when I tried doing the screen recording to one of my student, my student cannot hear my voice. My student said, my voice is muted (no sound at all). I can hear him but he can't hear me. When I went back to the screen recording file, all the screen activity, my voice and the student's voice were recorded except that my student kept on saying he can't hear my voice repeatedly. Good question! My first thought would be to go into Zoom or whatever your streaming app is and see if you can change your mic/audio input setting to aggregate device or multi-device output. I haven’t tried that yet, but it seems like it may work. Good luck!

Hmm in your audio midi settings is the interface showing up as having 2 channels (left and right), and both of them are enabled?

So after restarting my computer and going through this process again it seemed to have worked its self out. Hi Ben, thank you for this video. It helped me a lot. The only problem that I ran into is that when I play my system audio or my Presonus Studio One audio, IshowU records it as a mono signal and I need to be stereo. When I listen to it while doing the screen recording, I can hear it in stereo, but unfortunately not in the actually video after finishing the recording. I'm not sure what the issue is here. Any ideas? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hmm, that’s strange. Only thing I can think of is make sure all of the channels are selected in the midi audio setup under multi-device output and aggregate device. Might also try restarting your computer and disconnecting then reconnecting the audio interface.

Hey Ben, thanks for the video. I followed every step up until the end. I'm trying to screen record myself talking about and showing music in Garageband. So like you said at the end with Ableton Live, we'd have to change the audio output and input within the program. When I change my audio output in Garageband to 'multi-output device', I can no longer hear the audio, which defeats the purpose right? I want to screen record what I'm doing, while hearing my voice through my mic, and also hear the Garageband audio at the same time. I followed every other step exactly but it still won't work. What am I doing wrong here?

I figured it out. I'll post it here in case anyone else comes along with this issue. AT 1:00 in when Ben is talking about creating the multi-output device, make sure to not only place a check by your mic, and iShowU audio device, but place one by your built-in output as well. This allows me to hear my track in Garageband, record my voice, and successfully screen record it all using Quicktime. Just one extra step from what Ben's video shows. Thanks again for the great tutorial!

Thanks a lot for doing this video man!, I have been trying to screen record through Filmora X, it installs its own audio routing driver called "Speaker Audio Recorder" but i had been having problems of latency with it, creating guitar tutorials using ableton live. When using this method, set your main sound output to "multi-output device" and the input to your microphone. Then in QuickTime screen recording settings, set the mic to "aggregate device". Mac makes this wayyyyy too complicated lol

Hmmm I’m not entirely sure, but when you open MIDI audio setup, are you able to select all of the inputs and outputs in the multi-device output and aggregate device sections?

I had a similar problem. Still haven't figured out the static, but you can probably fix the voice coming out one side by going into the audio setup and clicking on the entry for your microphone. You should see "format" with a sample rate and to the right of that a channel select. It will probably be set to 2-channel something. Select one of the 1-channel options and your mic should now sound mono.

That happened to me first when I tried installing it. For me it was a security permissions setting that needed to be fixed. I keep getting stuck with an issue: Discord seems to not want to work with the Aggregate-Device as an input device. When I select the Aggregate Device, and I stream/voicechat with people, they can only hear my microphone and not my laptop's audio. Yes, you’d do the same stuff as in my video except make sure built in mic is checked under aggregate device inputs
