I wish I had thought to look this up 2 days ago! Doing it by eye with a small chisel and sandpaper is proving tricky. 😅

That's a great tip better than my way. On uneven floors I scribe all the boards but some don't need it. Obviously to keep board's same hight all need cutting

It is a pain if all the boards need scribing. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Nice video . But isnt the skirting board you just trimmed a different height from the 2 original ones that meet it?
@spendtimesavemoneydiy Жыл бұрын
No because I only cut the middle, the ends of the board are still the same width 👍🏼

Great video! What about if the bump was a dip, I’d that makes sense? How would you sort that please as that would mean taking height off the ends and this would affect the join to the next board. I have this exactly problem I’m dealing with now 🙏🏼
@richardmogie28933 ай бұрын
You have to lay out all the boards in that run and scribe the same amount from all of them. Make sure all inside and outside corners are flush before you start marking the scribe.

Genius! What brand of small block plane is that? Any recommendations?

It is a Stanley block plane. Here's an Amazon link for you amzn.to/3h526Qv

Good video mate, most people already have a compass and pencil and don't need an expensive scribing tool packed with levels and rulers etc..

So the mating parts at either side will have to be cut down in height also when matching them up??, grest video
@spendtimesavemoneydiy6 ай бұрын
Look again, I didn't take any material from either end only the middle so it will still match with the other pieces
@paulperrin21526 ай бұрын
Thanks for reply, if you would have had the bow in floor would you have to then ??@spendtimesavemoneydiy
@paullapkowski4338 Жыл бұрын
What about the other 2 boards that connect to your newly scribed board? By taking material off the bottom it seems like that piece would drop a bit or become shorter but the other 2 mitred pieces are still the same height.
@spendtimesavemoneydiy Жыл бұрын
If you notice I didn't take any material off either end of the piece so it will still be the same height as the other boards
@paullapkowski4338 Жыл бұрын
Yes I noticed that but didn’t the whole piece dropped down a few millimeters?
@biskupftm Жыл бұрын
@@paullapkowski4338 Paul, the left cut end connects to board on the left. The board on the left is full size. The left end of the scribed board is full size, so perfect fit. The same thing on the right. The drop you think about is by as much as the board would be too high if not scribed. What might confuse you is the fact that the left end fits the left board before scribing, but that's because the board is level with the old floor. To connect those 2 different levels, the board has to be sloping down to the new floor, so the top of the board is at an angle at the end, not level.

You must really understand what scribing is …. Then you’ll have all your answered covered because this video should be enough to explain everything
@rodmanrodman94542 жыл бұрын
Won't there be a height mismatch when joining to the next board- at the external corners in this case and wont this follow through until the run ends- at a door, say?
@Joe-bv7io2 жыл бұрын
No material (height) was removed from the ends of the board. So the height will remain the same for joining the next boards. This is why the wedges were installed on each end to remove material from the center of the board. If he had just leveled off on one side and had the entire gap on one end of the board when he scribed, it would create the scenario you are talking about.
@spendtimesavemoneydiy2 жыл бұрын
Joe was exactly right. I used the wedges so nothing was taken off the height either end of the boards. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
