How To Scripture Write When You Have A Chronic Illness

Wow this means a lot to me. If you had gone on for ever on this topic I'd still be here listening. I am 76. At age 2 it was discovered that I was born without hip ball and sockets on both sides, so I had my 1s surgery then and that started my life with arthritis and chronic pain. I was a freshman when I had the last surgery.... several on each side. As a senior in High School, I had a foot surgery and at 30 knee surgery. I do not relate to old people LOL, my peers because while I started at 2 my friends are just starting to go through hip, knee etc. surgeries and it's hard for them. Each decade I have gotten worse, pain wise and there's been other things also. In my 60'ss as I was driving the freeway to work on morning both of my hands exploded into excruciating pain that lasted for weeks. When the pain finally subsided my finger joints were deformed.... the damage was done. Fortunately, I haven't had any more damage, but pain comes when I do hobbies, move around, do chores etc. and writing has always been hard for me even before. But I'm like a dog with a bone, I refuse to give up, I soldier on. My Lord gives me life each day, so I need to use it for his glory even if I manage very little in a day....I can praise Him. My heart is for people who suffer physical pain, and I will be praying for you. Thank you so much for sharing an intimate part of your life with virtual strangers however, I believe that here, we are sisters in Christ, it's a safe place. 💗

Sherry, I was very surprised to learn recently (when I moved to a new house with new/clean ac and duct system) that the auto-immune issues (the ones you mentioned) i experienced for the years in the other house just melt away. Went from light sleeping (intermittent 2-3 hrs. a night) to a deep 10 hrs, then steady at 8 hrs., skin issues, painful joints disappeared. Now I know that the air I breath being clean - is critical (mold test the air and test dust for other particles, or better yet, just clean ac/heating/ducting and add air purifiers in rooms, especially bedroom). Wouldn't have ever known I was breathing in poison air that was producing all those symptoms -- had I not moved to a clean environment.

Thanks for sharing that Ingrid. I'm happy you were able to find out what was happening. We just had all of our ductwork replaced, along with getting a new furnace and HVAC system. I'm so glad we did.

I appreciate you sharing about your illness! I live with chronic pain due to a couple of different autoimmune conditions and have found little tips and tricks along the way to help myself do the things I need to do. Writing is often a struggle for me, but ever since I watched your video a couple of weeks ago about Scripture writing, I have fallen in love with doing it. It is a special time for me to spend with God. I have found if I wait until the afternoon my hands have had time to rest from my morning tasks and I can typically write the verse out then. I get up at 4 am each morning so I have time for Bible study (quiet time) before I get ready for work. I write in a prayer journal (sometimes it’s just a word or two) at that time so spreading the times I write throughout the day has been working for me. I am so grateful for you and the community you have online! I feel blessed to be a part of it. Thank you Sherry! 💜

I have been diagnosed with Sjogrens, which is an autoimmune illness. It is related to lupus. It's not heard of a lot, but it has some of the same symptoms. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your journey. I can relate to so many things you have shared. And it's comforting to know when you're not the only one facing certain issues and, most importantly, how God brought you! Whether it be with the help of doctors or divine intervention.

Your story just goes to show that we may never know what others are dealing with because they hide their pain well. My best friend has deep tissue neuropathy which has spread from her legs to her arms, head and organs, yet she continues to praise God for all her blessings. She has been such an inspiration to me. My little issues seem so insignificant compared to hers. I don’t know if she does scripture writing or not, but for her birthday I’m sending her some supplies to use in case she would like to begin doing it. Thank you for sharing your struggles. As I have got older my writing has deteriorated, however I have just discovered the pleasure of writing with an Apple Pencil on my iPad, as you write on screen with the pencil it changes it into text in a font of your choosing, so you get the feel of writing with a pencil but the result is better than shaky handwriting. I am a retired teacher always very capable but now chronically ill and also recovering from a recent stroke so I have been experiencing what it is like to have to relearn things you always took for granted. My greatest consolation is my Catholic faith and my dear brother William who helps me push my boundaries and yet accept the many things I cannot change and work out ways to create a happy purposeful existence that doesn't allow my many health issues to restrict me more than we can help. I have fibromyalgia, radiation induced lupus after breast cancer. I was on prednisone for 2 years! Medications for breast cancer, like hormone blockers, also cause severe joint pain and many other issues. My life was side effects! Congratulations on being in remission for so long. I didn’t know you had been dealing with this. I started with RA symptoms when I was I turned 40 but thankfully I was encouraged to make big lifestyle changes by some mentors that came into my life at that time(Clint Paddison, Paddison Program and Dr Brooke Goldner). I was diagnosed in 2001 with psoriatic arthritis and I didn't have to take anything till 2007 I started methotrexate and I have been on it since n still take it, I had psoriasis since I was 14 and had them all my life, so when I started methotrexate my psoriasis cleared up n I was so happy my skin was clear, I would love to get off my methotrexate and take a break from all it and stay off, thank you for sharing I so enjoy your videos and you are an inspiration, God Bless

You are such a blessing…I’m glad you are better… at first my dignosis was lupus was on plaqunil …I could barely drag. … then when I got on Medicare Dr told me I had Polymyalgia rheumatica… not spelled correctly.. I’ve been on steroids since and always so much pain and stiff as the tin man ..I love the Lord and the internet isn’t a replacement for going to church but I can’t get up without a hassle and my family church closed several years back so it’s hard to start in a new church …but so glad I can watch online and found you ….thank you and take care of you too….♥️

I am so sorry that you dealt with that. Glory to God that you are in remission!!! I know it wasn't easy as I have struggled with chronic pain for more than 20 years. It has now been quite severe since around 2008 and is now disabling. I also now also have an even worse problem. I'm not normally a depressed person but I have been believing for healing and with things getting even worse it's hard to fight it off. However, I also believe in God's suddenlies (miracles). I love photography (as an amateur) and back when I could still get out and take nature pictures I used to love to add scripture via photo editing software to my photos and get them printed out at Walgreens and put them on blank cards and send them out. I have also collected as many scripture rubber stamps and craft dies as I could find and love using those to make cards. Haven't felt like doing it much lately though. The spirit is willing but the body is weak.

Hi Sherry you have been dealing with a lot over the years. I as well have and continue to deal with chronic pain in my body from years ago when I moved a piece of furniture. I ended up being sent to physiotherapy where after my neck was worked on to help with a pinched nerve in arm, I have many issues . A physiotherapist said it could be fibromyalgia , was also told soft tissue. I have not been able to find answers. I deal with it most days some days I am ok. I understand the struggle. I also have had an auto immune issue twice with with my right eye and this last last the medication I was on caused my eye a lot of problems and left me dry eye so I have special drops . I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in March. They tested me for RA and Lupus etc. but they all came back negative. While there is no test for fibromyalgia, I guess it is the default diagnosis when you test negative for everything else. I also have hypothyroidism but it is not bad enough to warrant medication. I believe I have been suffering many years but just couldn’t find answers. On bad days, I take ibuprofen or on days I am going to be away from home I also take ibuprofen. Scripture writing gives me a reason to get up and get out of bed because most days I would rather stay in bed.
