What’s The Point Of Scripture Writing?

I started Scripture writing in January this year, but I am actually writing every chapter of every book in the Bible. Over the years, especially during the years I worked in our Methodist Church, I have read through the Bible a few times, but honestly, I found myself at a place in my life where I needed to know more and study God's Word. I started out verse mapping, but realized I wasn't getting what I wanted from that, so my best friend and I decided to do this together so we could keep each other accountable to our reading and journaling. We started in the Book of James, then went through Ruth, then the Gospel of Mark, and now we are 3/4 of the way through Luke. I study everyday and it's the best part of my day. I love looking back through my first journal because it is packed full of scripture and notes and things that are important to me. I loved that I could use my creativity to make it fun to look back on. When I sit down to do my study for the day, I always say a prayer first and then turn on some worship music (CeCe Winans is my favorite) soft in the background. I haven't been a subscriber to your channel very long, but I am so glad I found it! It is my favorite out of my all my subscriptions. Thank you for sharing God's love with us. ❤❤❤

Praise the Lord for your commitment and dedication, Susan! One of my first online Scripture Writing friends is now writing out the Bible. She is in Leviticus and I know it's a struggle somedays. I want to share that my 21 year old daughter told me last week that she believes in God and Jesus. For years she has said she didn’t believe and that the Bible was a made up story. I had shared with her ,about a month ago that when my depression and anxiety are just too much,I give it to God. Yes I still have the depression and anxiety,but I can work through those low times with His help. Yes,continuing our meds helps,but having God and Jesus in our lives is a great support. We both have depression and anxiety,she has been dealing with this since her elementary school days. Mine started in Jr. High. I wanted to dance and jump around when she told me she believed,but I told her I was so happy for her. 😊

I'm an artist. So I have started writing down Scripture verses in my sketch book then drawing an image that relates to the verses. Example: Psalm 1:3. I drew a tree by a small pond and how it flourishes. 🌳

I haven’t been doing this very long, but I struggled with what pictures or decorations I wanted to use. Well, I was making it too difficult. I knew that I would not be faithful every day if I was struggling so. Then it just came to me. Who says every day has to be decorated? I know you didn’t Sherry. The journal is not for sale and wouldn’t bring much money if it were. So, I decided to call it my heart journal. Some days I write the things that I am grateful for like God giving me the ability to recognize the path of life and him directing my footsteps. Other days I write out a prayer. I make this journal my open heart ❤️ to the Lord. Thank you for your videos. You are encouraging.

I was inspired to do that one week ago. When i was a little sad of my lack of progress in my Bible reading, suddely i reveived this inspiration : be like a little child. God loves you as his child. As a child, i loved to write. Just the pleasure of calmly copying something...you know, as the child we were and the pleasure we had when we received new notebooks for school...If i struggle, maybe i have to accept i have to go back to this child. I'm enjoying it so much. It gives me peace. I discover so much i had not seen before by reading only. It is a blessing.i don't decorate it at all. I want to keep it simple and focus on God's word only. Because i know myself and the way i may try to escape from what is realy important by taking side walks too often. I'm just using some colors underlining important words if i feel like and writing some comments on the other page.

Love this. I try to do this, especially when I’m struggling with something. Writing scripture seems to magnify the words and the message in my mind…and my heart. God’s word is alive and He always speaks through the scriptures. Plus, I enjoy writing because we don’t do it as much anymore. Everything is on the phone or computer. I’ve been using the SOAP method of Bible journaling for the last month and it’s been my quiet time. I’ve taking notes during Sunday service since the first of November and it really helps me to remember the sermon and the Bible references. I’ve made a practice usually on Sunday afternoon of the Bible references and it’s been a blessing.

I started scripture writing a couple of years ago. I really recommend it - it has helped me feel closer to the Lord and feel His presence in my life and the Holy Spirit guiding me. Also it amplifies the application of the scripture for me to write it down and not just reading over it. It has completely changed my spiritual life and hunger for the Word. I am a pastor’s daughter and have spent my life in the church. I thought I was immersed in the Bible but this scripture writing practice was a whole new level of learning about the Lord and desiring more! 🙏🏻

Yes sweet Sherry, I've always written everything down... Even at work, everything had to be written out. I still write grocery lists instead of using my phone like every one else that I know... It's absolutely a help to me to write it down, bc it does help me to remember it better. I have journals and I still write in it, especially something that I had fun doing, special days, ect. However, I also write my challenges as well. Thank you for sharing this info, I appreciate you so much 💗

I like that you talked about Focus. That is something I really struggle with. Also, I like that you made a commitment to God, that you would do this every day. I think I need to make that commitment. The drawing part us what has kept me from daily, I realized in this message I am putting too much thought in the wrong part of writing. The scripture is what is important, not the doodling or drawing.

Good evening, I have followed your FB page for years and only recently discovered your KZbin channel. I have been a believer for years and was born again and baptized when I was a child. At 62 years old, I have never heard of scripture writing until I just came across your videos. Yesterday I ordered myself a new notebook and colored non-bleed pens, I researched and downloaded a SOAP Guide and will begin this journey and I can't wait!! I've been struggling with grief as I suddenly lost my dearest "sister like" friend (of 40 years) in December. I've been trying to read "Daily Bread", I'm attending a woman's Bible Study group, I'm a church pianist and vocalist... But even with these efforts I still feel disconnected/numb. I think this hands on approach to the scripture will help me. I sincerely thank you for making a difference to me. God bless.

Excellent video. I can tell how much work you put into this, and it is appreciated. I started scripture writing a few months ago. I love it. I look forward to it everyday. It has really helped me slow down and think, it calms me down, and allows me to connect with God. I do not pick my own, I get the Intouch devotionals (they are free) from Intouch ministries. I write the scripture in my large daily planner, then I read the devotional. Often he teaches through the devotional so I have space to take notes from the scripture. I will check out your other video on this, so I can see what I may want to add into my routine.

You speak the truth. I am fairly new to your channel. I can still read a book thankfully, but I know what you mean. I think social media has caused a lot of problems. It's handy in many ways but wrong in so many other ways. I stopped today at the Dollar General Store and they had school supplies out and I got a composition notebook. Wasn't sure how I was going to use it, but now I know. I will start Bible journaling! Thanks for the inspiration!!

I have been scripture writing for a couple of years now, but it wasn't until January of this year that I really started scripture writing. My husband and I joined a new church earlier this year. Our church, every year, has a theme, this year our theme is, On the Rock. We have journals that we can purchase at the end of the year for the following year based on the theme for the year. In that journal there are places for prayer requests, sermon notes, and best of all, our daily reading plan that we do together as a church! We talk about the plan in our Sunday School, we have a place at the end of each day that we can post through the Bible app what we have learned, scriptures and what they mean to us and so on. I can honestly say I have grown so much, learned so much, and am finding myself craving more and more each day. I thank God each and every day for what HE has done in my life, how he has changed my husband, and how he has strengthened our marriage all this year! I cannot wait to see what HE has in store for us in the future!

Your Scripture writing video's are so interesting Sherry ! Thank you for putting them out for us . Sherry , when you write out your Scriptures do you focus on one verse or do you ever write out various verses at a time from different books of the Bible ?

Hi Sandra! While I have done different things here and there, I most often follow a guide and write out the verses of the day from one section of Scripture. Sometimes a guide will list only one verse, but other guides list longer passages.

Yes I agree scripture writing, yet I don't agree on the drawing. Someone who has adult ADD, drawing takes away my attention, memory of scriptures

For me, the drawing part just keeps me with the Scripture for a longer period of time. But for others, it's bothersome. That's why Scripture Writing is a personal exercise and one that might look different for each person.
