Man I'd be happy if I could make just that! I might even cast at this point! I've tried wood carving and I play with silver, a bit of casting lots of chain making. I really enjoy seeing your experience I will buy some wax to play with. My wife does pottery but it dries out and I want to adjust stuff.

Wax is definitely special. Clay can be really awesome too though, just remember a spray bottle and plastic wrap, a little slip pot and you can really play with alot of volume. One interesting thing about clay is the character it can take when it cracks and drys... Playing to the strength if a medium can bebjust as rewarding as the work or vision itself... I'm certainly no firm wax expert, I've only used it a little, along time ago, but looking unto it, I have found some recipes for different wax compounds to give a whirl and I figure I should encourage that as well for those ibterpid souls that what to learn as much as possible before setting any preferences. Anyway, best wishes!

This is incredible! I’ve been meaning to get into realistic sculpting and this has been exceedingly helpful, I’ve been making figurines out of polymer clay since 6th grade and have meant to do things more like this for ages now. The closest I got was sculpting Jim Carrey’s head for my Prom to make a version of The Mask’s mask from scratch (the dance was masquerade themed so I figured that’d naturally be the best mask to wear), but it didn’t have nearly as much detail as something like your work here. Which is honestly exciting, since that just means I can start putting more detail into projects like this once I start college soon! Seriously impressive stuff, you’ve got my subscription!

❤❤❤❤ thank you. I am going to order the wax you use, too. I have a third sculpture I have been working on. Poor fellow looks like Jay Leno and not on purpose. Thank you for teaching me. Getting myself out of the mindset that it's not a portrait on paper is something I am working on. Keeping the lines in check along with using my turn table, (a bar stool for now) and not overthinking it, helps. Love the hat, too...

@@stevewinterburnsculptor I havent used it as my bronze casting(only one 35 lb orca solid so far) was done with plastelina and silica with binder. I had a friend decades ago from Walla Walla Washington who's family worked a foundry doing wax loss(sculpture) and he had some wax on hand and im sure thats where my obsession began. I was primarily sculpting with clay at the time, fired and thus ceramic, but I only got to sculpt with maybe a handful of the wax and never did get any bronze castings back then. That said, is the wax mostly reclaimable and workable or does some of the compound degenerate when the shell is fired? Is it ever reasonable to use a bulk filler to reduce the amount of clay to be used, abd if so, do you have any suggestions on what that should be for small, medium and large works?

Hi Steve, Thank you very much for the effort and doing these videos and showing how you work in details. I've been following you on Instagram and I always wished to see how you sculpt from beginning to the end. I have a comment about the music, don't you think it should be slightly softer that it doesn't distract to hear you? I'm looking forward to seeing the next video. Thank you 😊🙏
