I do a step-by-step guide on how to sculpt miniature scale model candles, suitable for 28mm-32mm games such as Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar, though this technique can also be applied to anything from miniatures, dioramas or your D&D dungeons.
It's quite a long video but I do really in-depth covering each stage as well as showing a few options for making different style flames. The main components you'll are need some plastic rod, copper wire, PVA glue and baby powder. Super glue and plastic glue are also helpful along with a variety of hobby tools.

Older vid I know but still relevant. I'm working on Heresy era Word Bearers and the addition of a few candles should work a treat. Good clear tutorial much appreciated

I'm glad I got to finally see your method for making candles, they look really nice too! I still wonder if it was the type of pva I was using in my experiments that wasn't working out for me. I haven't considered using baby powder to build body in the glue and I was surprised to see it mix with superglue and still remain relatively liquid, I'm used to using bicarb and it curing instantly.

I'm pretty sure I just use something like this for my PVA. www.diy.com/departments/b-q-white-pva-1l/196638_BQ.prd Hope that helps. I can't remember if I came up with the idea of using baby powder with super glue or if I read about it in a modelling book. I've used the bicarb method but it sets the glue too quickly unless you use special slow set glue. But the baby powder works so much better without activating the glue so the work time is really good. I use that method now for filling in large gaps as it sands back nicely too.

Another interesting and useful video, and a good looking base as well. Are you planning on doing a video of the painting? I for one would be interested in your take on lighting from a source such as this.

Yep, thats definitely a good idea for a future video. I've yet to do anything close to complex OSL so I'm not sure how good i'll be at this but I'll give it a try.

Hello! Great tutorila thanks a lot! Are you planing on making that video about the basing stuff you did at 17:31 or can you tell us? :) Is it glue with babypowder again?

Hey there, it's super easy to do. I apply super glue to the base then dunk it in some Baking Powder as that reacts with the glue to harden it really quickly. It gives a rougher finish that the baby powder would.

Why did you use a 0.5 copper wire instead a 1mm?
@Beyondthetabletop
@Beyondthetabletop 4 жыл бұрын
0.5 is what I had, also smaller wire is going to look more realistic for a wick, as 1mm would be too large, however for a thick flame (without using green stuff) then you could probably get away with thicker wire.
