Bro, came back here to thank you for your video. You saved me a ton of money and I’m about to head to walker, Louisiana to pick up some bentonite clay granular. Very appreciative.

We finally were able to try this product today. I ended up having to go through a excavating company that spared me 10 bags for our pond. Big rain in store for tonight so I’m hoping it’ll flow into where it needs to go. Luckily we have a high leak instead of a low water table leak. 30$ per bag is what I found.
@TheHandsOnChannel2 жыл бұрын
Good luck. I need to go buy another 10 bags or so. I really wish I had a mini excavator but this stuff is a lot cheaper way to go.

I had a leak in my dam caused by the clay cracking during an extreme drought. I lowered the water level until I could see where the leak was coming from inside the dam. Initially I tried a 300mm pipe down the hole, but it didn’t touch the sides, so I then tried a 200 ltr drum with its ends cut off. This worked, for I could see that the water inside the drum dropped about 10 cm lower then the surrounding dam water, I then got a bag of bentonite (about $10) and started mixing it into the drum according to the directions on the bag, and by the time I had used half of the bag, the leak stopped. I then just tipped the remaining half bag into the hole. After I was sure the hole had taken up, I removed the 200 Ltr drum and it is still good three years later. All up it took about four hours of time and one bag of bentonite.

Maybe you could shake the clay in with a cup and watch it as it drops. It would be drawn twords the leak if big enough. Otherwise maybe there is some kind of non toxic dye or something else you could use.

Best of Luck on this. I thought about Food Coloring, but I don't think your water is clear enough to see the path it would take...also may mess with your fish. Only other thought is building smaller Catchment Pond (lined with Poly) below the current dam to fill and then transfer your fish IF needed.

Great idea Kong. I hope it doesn't come to that but it could work.

I had to order a pallet of bentonite clay. I live in oil field country and no one will sell less than a pallet. I used the entire pallet on the pond beside me. It stopped the leak.

@bctruck Жыл бұрын
@@roaddog9218I knew roughly where the leak was. I dumped an entire pallet in the area I thought was leaking and that stopped it.

You could actually see the leak?

I use bentonite for work. I recently found out they come in time release pellets that would find a leak before it clumps up. The normal hole plug version just gets wet instantly and won’t find its way to a leak.
@jeffbarnard4688 ай бұрын
Do you have a brand and retailer for these..that would be perfect.
@dirtydoug1818 ай бұрын
@@jeffbarnard468 I get it from a place called preferred pump that my company uses. you can try search online for a local store or online retailer, look up bentonite chips dealers. Some places call it lake seal.

Fixing to buy 40 bags for my 1/3 acre pond. I think the leak is at the bottom of the dam where it meets the undisturbed soil. I thought about draining the pond first but I hate to kill/dress all the fish. Will the method you did kill fish? I would think it might stick to their gills or something
@TheHandsOnChannel Жыл бұрын
No fish were killed. Unfortunately it didn't completely stop the leak so I need to do it again.

Try Shalex Damit pond sealer
@1wide9111 Жыл бұрын
I just tried the Shalex product. Pricey, but on a new pond it went from losing 12 inches in 24 hrs to 4. I going to try the clay today by sprinkling it on the surface. If that doesnt work I will try another 15 liters of the Shalex.

Have you had any luck getting the leak sealed? I have same issue and I’ve been wondering if the stuff works
@TheHandsOnChannel2 жыл бұрын
I think I slowed it down but it didn't completely stop the leak. It would work better if you have some idea where the leak is. I was just scattering it randomly and hoping for the best. I plan to drop another 500 lbs near the dam when I get the time/money. Good luck to ya, it's defiantly worth a try.
