It was an amazing video . I thought my resume was good . But now I can make it look way better . And last Thursday I got my learner permit . Today I am going to the unemployment office to get into any trucking training school . I can't afford to go to a good school so trying to get into any school through unemployment . Hopefully that will help if that didn't work I will sign with any company who can make me go through school and get truck driving license. If you can guide me in better way I would love to hear from you . Thanks a million for your reply on my comment 😊

Thank you Rick. Looking for class 1 driver job, local . I have no experience, I'm 48 years old and I want to start a new carrier,in 2014 I took my class 1 at Valley Driving School Coquitlam. Your video is helping me a lot how to make a better resume and cover letter. Thank you

Thanks again for your comment. As I tell all my students - you have tons of other transferrable skills that are relevant to the job of truck driving. Highlight these customer service, time management, and ability to work independently, etc. skills and abilities. If you haven't done so already, go to the driving schools and request a list of companies that will hire new drivers. And keep in touch with the school, because lots of times companies will call the driving schools looking for drivers. Like life, be ready for the opportunity. Good luck with your job search. Cheers Rick

All great information from A to Z. Thank you for that. You remind me of myself though in some respect, if somebody cut your hands off you could not speak. LOL my father used to say that to me.

Hi Phil V - Thank you for your comment. And you are so right my friend - we are animated with our hands. At the beginning of making videos, I went through a period of not using my hands, and I looked really stilted. In the end, I just learned to not move my hands in front of my face.;o) If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Thank you for the detailed video Rick! I am currently working a full time job but have a huge interest in trucks and truck driving. I have a way to attend CDL school at no out of pocket cost but would not be able to work any long haul OTR and likely would only be able to do 10 to 20 hours per week. Is this a situation where I should even pursue the training at this point? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I didn't need no resume to get a truck driving job

Rick, i got interviewed last week for a 5 ton truck driving job, and they said they're gunna interview other people too, and they said i hadn't had much driving experience for Class 1 or 5 ton, i was hoping that they call back and give me a chance, what do i do if they never call back?? i went to a driving school for 2 weeks to obtain my Class 1 and thats it, theres nothing i can put on resume except i worked as a Cleaner and Kitchen-Cook in fast food..

Hi ryan meana - Thank you for your comment. That was their polite way of saying that you didn't get the job. You need to find a driving job my friend. The farther you get away from your driver training, the less-and-less chance you're going to have of getting a driving job. Even if you're working driving a taxi or a delivery van, at least you're dealing with traffic and locating destinations. Those are skills you need to get a CDL job. You need to bang on a lot of doors and talk to a lot of people to get a CDL job my friend. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi ryan meana - Thank you for your reply. At this juncture my friend, get any driving job that you can get. You need the experience to eventually get the job you want. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

Ive had my cdl for about 10 years but im having trouble finding work as a cdl driver because ive never used it for over the road and its been quite awhile since ive driven a class a sized truck. When i was younger i had a bad driving record, but nothing with drugs or alcohol, but its been about 21 years since that happened. In the past 16 or more years ive kept a pretty clean driving record, just a speeding ticket here and there every 3 or 4 years or so. I love to drive so thats why i want to get into truck driving. I love being by myself and that's another reason. Any ideas on which companies i should apply for.
@smartdrivetest8 жыл бұрын
Hi toadsonytwo - thanks for your comment. My first bit of advice is to go to your local truck driving school and ask for a list of companies that will hire drivers that have minimal experience. The school will probably try to convince you to do some refresher training. As well, look for companies that have mentor programs--training programs where you get some actual on-the-road driver training. The next thing to do is to get a resume and cover letter together, focusing on your transferable skills. And then get on the telephone and talk to the people at these companies that do the hiring. As I stated in the video - in the beginning, beg, borrow and plead to drive and work, until you get enough experience that you can get the job you want. If there's anything else we can do, drop us a note. All the best, Cheers Rick

Hi Billy eRKa Rockbus - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your query. The first thing you would need to do my friend is get a work permit for Canada. You can find that information here: www.canada.ca/en/services/immigration-citizenship.html If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

also you said only the relevant work history thats relevant to the job im applying for is what i have to put in my resume but, i only worked like in Restaurants and Cleaning company in my previous years.., so are trucking companies would still consider me to hire and train as a newbie??
@smartdrivetest7 жыл бұрын
Hi ryan meana - your other jobs have transferable skills - when you worked in restaurants you delivered customer service and completed paperwork. When you worked at cleaning, did you manage projects and complete work on time - that's time management. All these are transferable skills that can be used in trucking. If there is an employment agency where you live, they will be able to give you a hand with digging out the transferrable skills to put on your trucking application. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

can i get a job with a Class 3 License (with airbrake endorsement) or am i limited??
@smartdrivetest7 жыл бұрын
Hi ryan meana - thank you for your comment and query. If there is anyway at all that you can get the extra money for a Class 1, you exponentially increase you chances of getting a job. And 80% of what you learn on a Class 3 is all applicable to a Class 1. If you can beg, borrow or steal the money to get that few extra lesson, the Return On Investment is far, far greater with a Class 1. There is work for Class 3, but it's tougher. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. All the best, Cheers Rick
