I highly recommend spot seasoning. Although I do season all my pans/ woks upon purchase, I always spot season b4 cooking. Also, with carbon steel and cast iron I heat on the stove after washing, and then Layer with thin coating of oil. They are all perfectly non stick.

I also agree that the patina does not indicate how well seasoned the wok is. I scrub mine clean all the time.
