In this video I'll demonstrate dismounting and mounting a tire, then seating the beads with a lowly bike pump.

Prepare thy arms for a workout! What's really funny about this is that when you made this comment I was in the midst of having my butt kicked by a motorcycle tire trying to seat it's bead with the same pump. Different results!

I didn't use a bike pump, but I used a ryobi tire inflator with your method and it worked! Tire is 295/70/R17. Saved me from having to buy a compressor for now. thanks.

I have NO IDEA why I'm evergreen watching this at 5am, I'm 49yo & swore off driving once gas hit $5.00, & i seen i can easily commute full time on my ebikes, even as a single father, but hey, you never know when i can just ride up & say "Well you need a truck to break the bead, crowbars, Dawn First Soap,a bicycle pump, & you should be good to go!" 😆

all very good, thank you, I have seated beads by wrapping a rope around the center of the tread and tightening it with stick, much like you would do a tourniquet. Harbor Freight has nice inexpensive tire irons that are useful multipurpose tools.

Rather than driving over the tire to break the bead, I jack up one side of the front of my vehicle, side the tire needing the bead broken under the raised tire and then slowly lower the vehicle. Works every time with no risk of damage to either tire. BTW, nice video especially tire mounting part. I tried that once on a skidsteer tire and got one hell of a workout.

Interesting! I do it a little different than you. I've broken beads with a bumper jack or "farm"jack with the base of the jack on a chunk of 2x6 or 8 at edge of tire to put pressure near bead and then jacked up a heavy vehicle several times moving set up each time until bead breaks. The idea of the wood is to be gentler on the tire but you may get away with the base of the jack, I have. I have also used other types of jacks. A person could put the jack under anything heavy even a raised building like an outbuilding on piers or something like that. I wouldn't say it was easy but easier than this, but maybe less fun? A person could even cut a curved edge into their plank to fit curve of rim...

I don't have a hydraulic press and don't want one so once I pressed in a bearing using a one ton van and a jack... the point being if a person thinks about it there are ways to do things without the "proper" tools when you have to. To all the just buy X at Harbor Freight people, you know even people with money are sometimes fixing their vehicle at their cabin or deer camp or hunting ground or "in the field" or... Just a general observation...

If nothing else an interesting experiment! Just a general observation...a pet peeve if you will... To all the just go to a tire shop or buy X at Harbor Freight people that always comment on these types of videos, yes that's an option but not what this video is about. And yes, if you have a compressor then that would be easier if it pumps out enough volume of air... Making do... An example: I don't have a hydraulic press and don't want one so once I pressed in a bearing using a one ton loaded up van and a jack... the point being if a person thinks about it there are ways to do things without the "proper" tools or paying a professional when you have to or just want to. To all the just buy X at Harbor Freight people, you know even people with money are sometimes fixing their vehicle at their cabin or deer camp or hunting ground or "in the field" or a remote area... Or don't want to buy something they will use one time! Use once! Just a general observation... You steal your license plate bulb holder with pigtails to use as a circuit tester and people tell you to buy a circuit tester as if you don't know they sell them, as if you always carry one in each vehicle... Or even worse they inform you that you need a multimeter as if you aren't aware of the existence of multimeters, VOMs... For some tests the VOM or mutimeter is no more useful than a test light you make, take or buy! I don't know if these people are trolls or whatever but there always seems like a lot of these types of comments on these types of videos... Just a general observation...

I have several old tyre levers, they are brilliant for this job. Passed down the family, probably from the 1930's when motorists were expected to mend their punctures by the side of the road. They would come with the car along with other tools. That's back when men were men etc.

Triumph is right! and spaghetti arms too. I did another smaller tire the following day using my little 12v DC emergency roadside compressor and came to discover that because it moves a bigger volume of air, the hand pump was actually more effective than the electric one. go figure

3 tips: #1- clean /vlean /clean0 the old bead robber off the rim ! wire brush + some scrapper! or slow leak from hell /every 3 to 5 days! # 2- … Tire bead sealer (dries is like hard rubber) almost always keeps old rims from loose air! goes on wet/ slippery- water clean up for xtras! drag racers slip on rim solution :use 1/4 dawn dish soap + 3/4 parts water.. slick on bead... but dries like glue from hell! warning:when replace this dawn tire- rips bead rubber on old tire and is hell to clean it for the next tire! ! hard to remove from rim ! USE rubber bead sealer :>) #3- harber freight 1 man manual tire changer $100. /im 54 yr and its easy do your own tires with this! im boat trailor + car trailor- I remove a tire and place mine from vehicle on appropriate trailor/old way of balance tire without a machine- a lot spinning and watch way moves.. apply weights with tape.. till happy with balance- then hammer on weights! or peel and stick :>)- method balance is great for 70mph or less/idiots go faster need perfect balance machine!

To break the bead by driving on it, best to put a strong plank on the sidewall and drive up the plank. The force is more accurately directed that way. @2:55 , to protect the nice rim why not lever the tyre off from the ugly inside of the wheel? I've also done AT tyres with a bike pump, a clapped out one too; success depends if the tyre has a natural spring outwards to the bead or not.

I did this to replace the TPMS valves all round, bargain from ebay. Tyre shop would have wanted to sell me those valves for 5x cost plus fitting cost. Also - I don't want tyre shop removing & refitting wheels as the b....s always tighten lug nuts too much. Didn't need to rebalance because I put tyres back in same position.
