I've got some peppermint sprouted in a cup. It took about 3-weeks for them to germinate and now, maybe 10-days later, the plants are still tiny...about the size of a dried green pea. You sure weren't kidding about the size of the seeds. Mine weren't coated and they look barely larger than spores! I've got most of the packet yet unplanted. I'm sure I planted them too densely. The cup is only 2" (50mm) in diameter at the rim, and I count 19-sprouts, all bunched up on one side. I guess I'll just wait and see how they do. They seem so fragile at this stage I wouldn't bet money on their survival. But, if they get a little bigger I guess I'll have to try to break up the party and put them in separate, bigger pots.

Hey Gary Pilarchik, if I plant mints in containers to scatter around in my vegetable garden, will the mints have the same bug repelling affects - or do they need to be in contact with the same soil as the veg? My understanding is the scent is what matters, but wanted to be sure in case something is happening underground that I am not considering.
@THERUSTEDGARDEN11 жыл бұрын
J&J Acres In theory it is the scent. I think it were the roots... it would be useless to us because it would take over anywhere we planted. Although, I am still looking for good proof that scents work to repel. I know the are enjoyable to brush against for the smells.

The hole in the bottow is for drainage. You want the soil to abosrb water but all excess needs to drain out. Sitting water in the cup will rot the roots of your transplants.

I am very new to gardening and would like to know how often you water the seeds when they are in the cells and when they are in the cups. Also, from your other videos I see that you water the cells from the bottom, but when you transplant them into the Styrofoam cups, do you water them over the top or how?

you water them whenever the soil starts to become dry, it applies to most plants most sizes you transplant the plants when they are starting to become too big for their pots where they are growing

@lacplesis4843 жыл бұрын
hybrid seeds are basically 2 different breeds bred together. If you harvest the seeds from hybrids and sow them, it will not be the same plant you originally planted. Basically you can plant the seed once and you can't harvest the seeds from hybrid plants. It's kinda a bit complicated.

Thank you. Also I was wondering, have you worked with tomato plants, cherry tomato plants, and grape tomato plants? I also asked another person about those but they haven't replied and I'm a little concerned. The question I asked was "Is it necessary to have tomato cages for any of those?" Because I have cherry tomatoes and I plan on planting regular tomatoes, but I'm only 15 and I am not of the age to get a job and buy things that I require, so I'm kinda finding cheap, easy, and efficiently ways to grow my plants healthy and strong. I'm sorry for the novel to read, and again I'm sorry, I feel like I'm pushing it with all the questions, I really hate asking questions because I feel like people will begin to hate me if I ask to much.
@THERUSTEDGARDEN10 жыл бұрын
Jherica Jones You do have to cage them. But you can use sticks or anything like that. They need to be about 6 feet. You can gently tie the tomato to the stakes. Just press the poles, sticks, branches in the ground about 1 foot away from the tomato stem. Questions are fine.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN I have an evil neighbor who is putting dog poop into my potted plants and on my porch recently..I don't even interact with neighbors! I just bought a package of mine seeds and have no other option but to indoor w/ indirect sunlight, unless I take them outside & babysit them...oh I forgot to mention, whomever this miserable person is, they also took my 2yr old plants out of their soil..so I came out on the porch this morning but to find empty tampered with pots, with dog feces thrown into my aloe vera, the only plant left out of 4 pots...I have a good idea who it May have been, but don't have proof..I'm just disgusted with bitter humans..no logical reason except envy. I'll get more plants eventually, but I don't think they'll get any contentment in life. Some ppl are really just demons.
